  1. The award, by the way, is not trivial. Any nodes that request cashing out their #BOINC awards must pay around 35% tax to the current PoS node. Which is precisely why getting them exclusively by mining takes even longer than expected. #Gridcoin
  2. #Gridcoin has a mix of #ProofOfStake and indirect #ProofOfWork. In order for my node to qualify for one chance of doing PoS a day, I would need around 200 000 GRC, which amounts to either $830 USD, or 240 years of #BOINC grinding in my current computer. Hmm...
  3. At least on my case, contributing to #GridCoin is mostly for the sake of helping the #BOINC project. "Mining" for 3 months, my earnings have been roughly $0.30 for $60 of electricity. But I've submitted truckloads of genome scans to find cancer markers, can't say that's useless!
  4. #GridCoin: because if #cryptocurrency still needs to spend energy into #ProofOfWork, I'd rather have that electricity be spent into investigations on cancer and mathematics, than just playing crypto-bingo! gridcoin.us/ #BOINC
  5. #BOINC project #Universe@home has been placed on the #Gridcoin greylist today due to low work availability.

  6. @stfn @AenBleidd A few weeks ago my last client died (Raspberry Pi 4), because the sd card broke (this time it was an expensive one) and I think it's pretty common sd card break if you run #boinc 24/7.

I had #gridcoin on this client, too. It is a crypto currency, which rewards people who are crunching boinc, instead of doing useless hash calculations like #bitcoin

But because I see it as a waste of resources, I will not revive this project yet.

I might do it if I will find the time and if the community will support it, too, with the exception that I will buy only used hardware, because buying new hardware (even the solar panels and battery) for this project isn't sustainable at all.

Imagine a fleet of used mini computers / old hardware crunching for science with alternative energy. 😮

  7. #Gridcoin feels like cashback for running #BOINC on my puter :blobcat:

  8. Le #Gridcoin $GRC est une #cryptomonnaie qui rémunère la participation volontaire à des calculs scientifiques... Pour que la #science infuse ! 🧪🔬 journalducoin.com/actualites/g

  9. I always kinda wonder why #gridcoin hasn't gained much tractions instead of those #bullshit #cryptos and #ERC-20 #tokens...

Could have used the processing power for something useful like helping a #BOINC project...

  11. @celia Something like #Gridcoin which performs societally useful computations, for research, medicine, etc.

  12. CW: COVID-19 / a way you can easily assist with research

@Shrigglepuss If you want to make some money but don't want to compute useless numbers, you can make off Folding@Home. gridcoin.us/

GridCoin is basically the only PoW-crypto that doesn't make me feel like I'm throwing away electricity for magic beans.
