"The crucial point, however, is whether it is generally of much use to look at an act like that of Georg Elser from a moral philosophical perspective.
After all, even the ancient Greeks looked at the issue of tyrannicide philosophically from all sides, and later thinkers have repeatedly turned the problem back and forth in the light of new systems and new circumstances.
Nevertheless, there has never been a simple, time-independent answer.
If there is one point in the case of Georg Elser that really poses a probing question for all time, then it is first of all a completely different one: why did this man recognise and take seriously the injustice and violence around him so early and so precisely? Why did he draw the correct conclusion that even greater injustice and even worse violence would follow? And why did millions of others not do this?
Times, circumstances, deeds are always of a unique quality.
That is why they can never simply be a model for us.But they can be an impulse to reflect on our own times and circumstances."
