The general ill-preparedness of governments is chilling
The #GatwickDrones, absence of preparedness for pandemic isolation actions, & absence of protection of voters from Rupert Murdoch's pro-Trump brainwashing are just a few examples.

Which combine with systemic failures in communication and ethics leading to the #AgedCareCrisis and even to unlawful actions, as found in #Robodebt (and now possibly wider program failures stretching over decades).

The fatal flaws and absences described in the article were clearly visible (and left unaddressed) years before.

Having a major airport - Gatwick - shut down for days by folk playing with common toys is not something that happens in a country with an adequately functioning government.

So disfunctional that this warning sign was ignored.

    It is a good article.

But, " Weren't these same lessons available with AIDS, with malaria, with HK flu, with Spanish flu?"

If they were available, and I can't see why they weren't, then what needs to be happening so they're learnt and embodied in public health and science communication going forwards from here?

Looks like rigid institutions, lacking adaptability, in play. #GatwickDrones

"... had not considered policies such as lockdowns and shielding ..."

This is bad news. It speaks of decades of ineffective pandemic preparedness by the GB health department bureaucracy to me - unless they show some point in the pst where things changed to being overly focussed on flu.
