@Jayrive I agree. It's why I hadn't tossed it yet; I figured I would at least see if I could open it up, and see if I could find an obvious cause.
Since it worked on-and-off, I had already assumed something not making a good contact, so reseating the ribbon cable was my first bet, which looks to have been right.
Self-tapping screws would be ideal, also for reopening later, but I fear the plastic is not thick enough.
Might just resort to #gafferTape or small clamps.
