  1. I decided to improve my Spanish, yes.

But I'm doing it on Hard Mode.

The custom flashcards that I create are English-Spanish. Oftentimes, it would be so much easier to have them be French-Spanish.

Those who know French and Spanish will tell you that the two are much closer together than English is to either of them.

  2. Around these here parts, we say:

    I'd like the check.

    In French, we can say:

    Je voudrais l'addition.

    In Spanish, I have:

    Me gustaría la factura.

(Note that in French, we can also say la facture instead of l'addition.)

Why can't we agree on what to call that slip of paper?

The song was adapted in 1954 by American songwriter #JackLawrence.

  5. In French, we have the name dent-de-lion which means "lion's tooth". However, the same flower has the name pissenlit which means "pisses in the bed."

    :catthinking:

I'd like to know the scenario in which such a flower was able to piss the bed.

  6. Toi qui me suis quand le jour tombe
    Vers l'étang que la lune irise ;

Toi qui becquètes mon bras frêle
    Comme une sœur encore mutine
Et dont le baiser me rappelle
    L’ongle pointu d'une main fine.

  9. So i got this sentence in Duolingo and it translates into "You are my Hero (Hero as a female here)", but i found it funny cause the sentence sounds like "You are my Heroin" and then i started researching what Heroin means in french.

Apparently (according to google) "héroïne" means both Hero (female) and Heroine, so i instantly asked both my french buddies and they were like "Huh, that's odd" and nothing more...

    Like, did they never notice?
Why is it the same word???
