Full hunting season starts this weekend. Yesterday, I went for one last hike. I arrived wearing only what was needed. The day was warm. A cold front is rushing in dragging the summer temperatures down. I pack water and a few weights in my backpack. The weights are for cardio and muscle strengthening.

It was slow work chiseling away the surrounding limestone, allways keeping in mind the fossil. The bryozoa are below the area being chiseled.

I had walked past this rock face many times, until the sunlight lit it just right. By chance, that is when I noticed a lager partly exposed cluster of branching bryozoa. After inspecting the rock, considering how best to free the fossil, I when to work.

Yesterday was a great hiking and insect collecting day. I was greeted with the knocking of a woodpecker somewhere in the forest. The wind sounded like the ocean surf rushing through and over the forest. I came home with seven butterflies and one beetle. I also made a few sketches of the clifts of Monarch Canyon.
