  3. Why i'm sticking with Colonization for Windows (1995):

    FreeCol 1.2.0 released

    • Fixed an issue that prevented the Declaration of Independence if the player name had non-ascii characters.

    • Allow to run FreeCol with only 512MB memory. Please keep in mind that 2GB is still needed for higher resolution, smoother scroll and high rendering quality.

  4. A new version of #FreeCol, the open source version of #Colonization, has been released! This release features a new Colony panel with improved building graphics. In addition, there are lots of nice improvements and essential bug fixes. All savegames (without mods) from 0.12.0 and up should continue working with 1.2.0.

  7. @kkuchta If you don't count the cost of your time, you can have infinite fun-hours-to-cost ratios with well developed free #games such as #Freeciv, #FreeCol, and (one where you make-your-own-fun by designing advanced military units) C-evo. All covered on #civilization.fandom.com.

  8. @RFPatterson @Fury not to forget that there are things like #FreeCol or UnCiv ;).

  9. @feditips @MastodonEngineering Yes.

    First, there's #Weblate. I strongly recommend it, I have recently started using it for my own games. #Minetest also uses it.

    Then, there's translatewiki.net. #FreeCol uses it and a number of other projects. Also good.

    There are also #Zanata and #Pootle but I have no experience with these and they may be outdated (check for yourself).

    Then, there are translation services tailored towards specific software:

    #Pontoon for Mozilla.
    #Eints for #OpenTTD.

  14. New fan project detected! While #FreeCol freecol.org/ is an excellent recreation of the Colonization experience that we highly recommend, there are some that still wish for a 1:1 recreation of the original Colonization and it's classic 2D graphics that works on modern machines, allows modern viewing resolutions, and has easy modability. One of the Col fans, David, has announced that he's working on such a thing, so we wish him all the best! facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10102

  15. @rml

    A few games I play(ed):
    * (FPS)
    * (RTS)
    * (4X)
    * (turn-based strategy)
    * (racing)
    * (econony sim)
    * (RPG)
    * (Puzzle)

    (I'm biased of course since I am involved in the development of a few of these, esp. Hedgewars. 😜)

  16. I'm excited about the release also because I've worked on the German translation. I think this was important since the translation had a ton of errors and inconsistencies.

  17. version 1.0.0 is out!!!

    OK, since a few months already 😄 , but I only now got the news. HUGE congratulations to the entire development team for this important milestone. I'm always excited when a free software game reaches version 1.0.

    🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉

  18. We know how hard is to develop an game for 20 years (and more!).

    That's why we want to congratulate for its 1.0.0 release after 20 years of development. Keep up the good work! 🎉

    Let's note that FreeCol downloads has long been counted in millions.

  20. @dinosauce @ademalsasa Another vote for #OpenTTD. Never without a patch pack.

    Also occasionally #FreeCol, #Minetest, sometimes #FreeCiv...

  21. I like hosted.weblate.org. A few games/engines/projeects have their there, like .
    Another website is translatewiki.net, where is translated.
    Oddly but interestingly, goes its completely own way on translator.openttd.org/

    So please nobody tell me there is no way around . 😛

  22. Today I worked on the German translation for to (hopefully) fix a couple of mistakes and finish the missing translations.
