"Let It Ride" is a 1974 single by #BachmanTurnerOverdrive, written by #RandyBachman and #FredTurner, with the latter providing lead vocals. It was first recorded for the 1973 album #BachmanTurnerOverdriveII. The single peaked at No. 23 on the U.S. #Billboard #Hot100 on April 27, 1974 (making it BTO's first Top 40 song in the US), and spent two weeks at No. 14 on the #CashBox Top 100. In Canada, the song reached No. 3.

I'm listening to #DougRushkoff's interview with #FredTurner on #TeamHuman and its occurs to me that we are presented with a false choice, when it comes to the future of democracy. One the one hand, we're being asked to resuscitate the old, centralized model of the "nation-station", and on the other hand to abandon it in favour of a completely fluid, distributed model of P2P consensus over social networks. A model that we've seen lend itself to massive tyrannies of structurelessness. (1/2)

The third part is also notable for its framing of the internet's role in disinformation. Basically the net = the major #DataFarms (FB etc), and "regulation" of Silicon Valley = increased government control over internet speech (not #AntiTrust action). It's a framing I first noticed in the otherwise excellent Adam Curtis series '... Machines of Loving Grace ...', in #FredTurner's 'counterculture to cyberculture' discourse, and in a hit piece on the #EFF by #YashaLevine, published in the #Baffler.
