  1. I sent an email to the 2 Guys 1 Cup #footy podcast asking them this question. Is racism the brand for the Adelaide Crows?

  3. Looking forward to the world cup final because then everyone can stop pretending like this boring fucking game is worth watching.

The most exciting soccer game I've ever seen is less interesting then the most boring #footy game I've watched. Soccer has a lot of "he hurt me" theater. Footy has a rule if you are visibly bleeding players have to leave the field because if it didn't they would keep playing. These games don't exist in the same universe.

This is my third year watching Australian Rules Football, aka #footy. Watching that game for any length of time makes the soccer MH talks about unwatchable.

In footy, you see guys jump over each other to make catches then hitting the ground super hard. At any point when they have the ball, they might get tackled and thrown to the ground. These guys take enormous physical abuse for 80 minutes and then get up and smile at the opponent while bumping them.

Watching the "ow, he touched me" theater in soccer and the frankly boring ball movement is really just ridiculous. I'd way rather watch some guys run down the field passing handballs back and forth like they are in a professional keep-away league (which they kind of are) than see any soccer ever.

    Go #Dockers! Go #Magpies!

  7. I just watched the #Dockers vs #Swans #footy game from yesterday. Holy cats was that a good game. #1 and #2 teams on the ladder did not disappoint.

I think this post goal celebration was an atypically sweet moment.

    Go #Freo!

  9. I think it's great that grown men get to play footy. People shouldn't judge them for playing a women's sport, I think it's very brave that they're pushing the gender stereotypes a bit.

  11. I barrack for two #footy teams: Fremantle Dockers and Collingwood Magpies. The Pies are having a rough season but man are the Dockers amazing this year. I find them endlessly entertaining to watch. I haven't been following for that long but long enough to see the difference between before and after adding Shai Bolton to the roster. Go Freo!

AFL umpires are wearing advertising logos on their shirts. How does this help the retail chain sponsors 🤔if fans think the umpires suck?

(Don’t really care. would not go into that chemist chain if the drugs were free)

Fren : oh, that was across the face… give ‘im a mark… yer gotta wonder about umpires sometimes…

Me: (not watching, not looking up)
if they wanna win they oughta play better

    result: — not even a nibble 😆

  18. The two #AFL teams I root for are the Magpies and the Dockers. This is the week that the two of them meet, so big times for me!

A little surprisingly, the latter is having the better start to the season. Round 4 without Nick Daicos and Scott Pendlebury, and with Brody Mihocek and Mason Cox no longer on the team, the Magpies looked pretty flat. I don't want either team to look bad. Maybe I can hope for tie?

  19. I've now been following #footy long enough to be bothered when players change teams. Brody Mihocek as a Demon? Seems wrong. At least when Mason Cox changed teams it was to the Dockers, the other team I root for. That hurts less.

  20. @RuthSachter @Brisbanein28 Whoa, I could go to a Worldcon and perhaps also see the #BrisbaneLions play #footy? That's a pretty spectacular sounding foundation for an Australian holiday.

  21. Don’t know if this is paywalled, but it's a very moving interview with the the AFL/VFL’s first openly bisexual player. Good read. #afl #footy #LGBTIA smh.com.au/national/he-was-sha

  22. I dropped by Fitzroy Library today and noticed this fun display of books about Aussie Rules football, coinciding with the finals. Good work. :)
