  1. Sigh. I guess this qualifies as interesting. :blobcat_thisisfine:

"#Toronto Police are investigating suspected #antisemitic attacks on #Jewish businesses after shattered windows were discovered Sunday morning at two locations of the Jewish-owned #KivasBagelBar chain.

The damage was discovered when the locations opened Sunday morning and is believed to have occurred overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

At around 8:12 a.m., police received a report that a window had been struck by #gunfire at the #bakery’s location at Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue.

Police confirmed that evidence of #firearm use was found, including a #bullethole in the business’s front window.

Then at around 8:30 a.m., police were called to another #Kivas location on Steeles Avenue West near Bathurst Street, shattered front window was also found there, although police found no evidence of gunfire."

  2. So I've looked up the procedure to legally acquire a Pistol #Firearm (#gun) in my state in #Australia . Firearms of any sort are super tightly regulated, we never had a mass murder incident with a pistol, something that happens every afternoon in US (twice on the weekends)

    These are the requirements

    1. You have to prove you do not want a pistol

    2. You have to show you need it for a good cause, the only good reason being, taking it out of a gun safe between 3PM and 6PM on a Saturday to look at it.

    3. The police will require your DNA, Brain scan and check your ancestry all the way back to Jesus for any criminality, this being Australia, settled by convicts, no Australian migrant can own one.

    4. Pistol dimensions are strictly regulated, the magazine may not exceed 1 round, and you have to assemble the round before you fire it, by law, with the separate parts of the bullet stored some distance apart, ideally in different municipalities.

    5. The barrel of the pistol may be between 1200mm and 1201mm and of a calibre wider than the round used in the pistol

    6. You need to join a secret society, and pay your firstborn as a due.

    7. For the first 6 years, you can not actually own a gun, instead after you get a permit, you can look at one in the shop.

    8. You have to enroll and graduate from a 3 year full time University Firearms safety and use course.

    9. To maintain your license, you need to attend an official cult, sorry club, competition every weekend (Sat AND Sun)

    10. You have to re-apply for the license every month and will lose it if you do not meet any of the cult, sorry club, competition requirements or are within 500m of a criminal offence being committed.

  3. "For years, #AnnaSoyfer opposed #gun ownership, her views shaped by stories of #schoolshootings and the easy availability of #firearms. Then came the #Oct7 attacks in #Israel, followed by a surge in #antisemitism that made her and her husband rethink what keeping their family safe might look like. This spring, they became among the first members of a #Jewish #firearm training group that launched in #StLouis.

“Historically, I’ve been against gun ownership,” Soyfer said. “But with the increase in antisemitism, we feel more and more that our safety is in our hands.”

As Jewish gun groups continue to grow nationwide, St. Louis is proving to be part of that trend.

The St. Louis chapter of #Lox&Loaded, a national organization focused on firearm safety and training within the Jewish community, began meeting in May..."

  4. This should be fun.

"A Florida man has been indicted for allegedly plotting a mass shooting targeting #Jewish employees at a pro-#Israel #nonprofit organization, the Justice Department said.

#ForrestKendallPemberton, 27, of #Gainesville, is charged with an attempted #hatecrime, using and carrying a #firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a short-barreled #rifle.

Federal prosecutors said that on Dec. 23, 2024, #Pemberton attempted to carry out a shooting at an office belonging to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (#AIPAC), a group that lobbies the U.S. government in support of Israel, in the South Florida city of #Plantation.

He was reportedly armed with an #AR15-style rifle equipped with a silencer. The Palm Beach Post previously reported that AIPAC was the targeted group. Court documents didn’t specify the nonprofit."

  5. Arguably United States v. Hemani and Bruen have indefinitely changed the landscape of Second Amendment jurisprudence #uspol #firearm #secondamendment #2A

  6. …The opinion is the latest in a series of #firearm cases to reach #SCOTUS since a landmark ruling expanding gun rights in 2022 led to a wave of challenges around the country.

Since then, the high court has upheld a law aimed at protecting victims of #DomesticViolence & strict regulations on #GhostGun kits but has struck down a ban on #BumpStocks, an accessory that enables rapid fire. The justices considered two firearm cases this term alone.

  7. Outsourcing stochastic terrorism is bit of a paradigm shift we've been seeing more and more of.

"Young people are being hired to carry out #shootings at targets around #Toronto, including #Jewish #schools and #synagogues, and the #US #consulate, Toronto’s police chief, Myron Demkiw, told reporters on Tuesday.

Demkiw called the conference to provide an update on arrests made in multiple #firearm discharge investigations, including the shooting at the #USConsulate that took place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and the killing of a veteran Toronto police officer last week during a raid linked to the shootings."

  8. @bweller

I think many folks who believe that #firearm > #blade are thinking of the scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where #IndianaJones is confronted by some random guy with leet blade skillz and just shoots him. Or something similar.

    It's a *#movie*.

  9. Although its good these ones were handed in, the most worrying aspect of these blank firing #replica #pistols being easily convertible to fire live rounds is both #Police and civillians can now no longer assume a bright orange #gun is a blank firer or other #replica rather than a lethal #firearm
