The Last Movie of 2025: Some Like It Hot with Pat O’Brien https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/some-like-it-hot-1.jpgJoe E. Brown knows what he wants. Also: my last movie of 2025!
Sneaking in a last movie of 2025 to wrap up my “Fake posters for every movie I see in 2025” project. My letterboxd list says I’ve seen 254, but my fake poster count is 258 so I’m missing something somewhere.
What a great movie to end the year. It’s hilarious. Also: I never got why people were so enthralled by Marilyn Monroe. I get it.
Pat O’Brien (1531 Vine Street) plays a cop who manages to let a lot of people get shot. He was a very popular actor who appeared in over 100 films.
My LAST FAKE POSTER is… pretty good. Not a favorite, but an acceptable end to the project.
I guess I should do some sort of “wrap-up/what’s next” post tomorrow so that all my imaginary fans aren’t left guessing about my next project.

Movie Pass Adventures: No Other Choice https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/no-other-choice-1.jpgThe Korean version of The Office is wild.
What a pleasure to get all the way to the end of the year and find a favorite movie. Dark and hilarious, with creative choices I’ve never seen before but instantly understood.
I wrote roughly one billion words about the last movie I saw. Part of that is because bad movies are easier to write about, but it’s also because I don’t want to spoil this movie.
Of course, that doesn’t mean I can’t make a silly fake poster based on a Charlton Heston zombie virus movie!

Retro Movie Adventures: Smithereens https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/smithereens-2.jpgLiving in filth in NYC is so glamorous!
What if Marty Supreme was about a woman in the 1980s punk scene, and she had no apparent talent?
I used the poster for this movie for yesterday’s movie, so it seems fair to yesterday’s movie for today’s poster.

Walk of Fame Movies: The Godless Girl with Lina Basquette & Marie Prevost https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-godless-girl-1.jpgI laughed a lot, but only when I wasn’t supposed to.
This is Cecil B. DeMille’s last silent movie, and it is weird and unintentionally hilarious. A student forms an underground atheist society at her school, which is apparently a crime.
I guess this was before people had free speech. When the student body president brings a mob to disrupt a society meeting, a girl is killed. Then they go to prison (well, prison-like reform school), where they find love and she finds religion.
The Godless Society has an excellent graphic department. Check this out:
Someone probably has a tattoo of this. One of the best things about watching this was Marie Prevost (6201 Hollywood Boulevard). I watched a different, terrible movie with her earlier in the year, and it was refreshing to see her in a role that justified her having a Walk of Fame star.
Lina Basquette (1529 Vine Street) is the Godless Girl, who was loosely based on a real person. Basquette had quite a life. She had been married to Sam Warner (co-founder of Warner Bros.), and the rest of the family was upset because the Warners were Jewish and Basquette was Roman Catholic. When Sam died, Lina was pressured by Harry Warner to give up custody of her daughter so the child would be raised Jewish. The custody battle effectively blacklisted Basquette for a time. In the late 1930s she was flown to Germany meet with a German film studio and several Nazis, including Hitler. She claimed she kicked Hitler in the crotch when he hit on her, and that Hitler didn’t stop pestering her until she told him her grandfather was Jewish.
And now, the fake poster. It’s hard to find fun movies with “God” or “Godless” in the title, so I went with “Girl.”

Movie Pass Adventures: Song Sung Blue https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/song-sung-blue-1.jpgIt’s not high art, but it isn’t trying to be.
Don’t go in expecting The Seventh Seal and you’ll have a good time. But be warned: the second half gets darker and weirder than you might expect. That’s what happens when you’re dealing with a mostly true story.
I’ve never seen the source movie for today’s fake poster, but I’m planning to watch it right after I post this.

Movie Pass Adventures: The Secret Agent https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-secret-agent.jpgThis man really is leading a life of danger.
It’s kind of amazing to watch a movie and genuinely have no idea how it will end. This movie is nearly three hours long, and it felt like a tight 90 minute thriller. Bonus points t the people who made the trailer; it totally gets the feel of this film without spoiling it.
Also: this movie made me realize that I absolutely would fall for someone disguising themselves with a wig or a mustache.
There are surprisingly few decent resolution images available for this movie, so I picked a minimalist source poster and did some creative interpretation.

Movie Pass Adventures: Marty Supreme https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/marty-supreme.jpgThey should have digitally added Ernest Borgnine as Marty.
Challenges I had watching this movie:
1. The opening credits are shown over an egg getting fertilized, which is exactly what happens at the start of Look Who’s Talking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65BV5dXXxzM
2. The protagonist is named Marty Mauser, which made me think of a comic book detective named Mike Mauser.
I’m guessing most people didn’t have this problem.3. Everyone in this movie is a jerk.
I liked the movie- a lot- but I don’t think I need to watch it again any time soon.
Oh, but I found a good poster to copy for this one!

Streaming Movie Adventures: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/spinal-tap-ii-1.jpgMarty DiBergi, you will be missed.
The end of my three part “Stuck in a Hotel in San Francisco” mini movie festival. I hadn’t watched this because I was afraid it would be a depressing retread of the first film, but it actually has new jokes. The band is older. They’re not partying, they’re just rehearsing and reconnecting. It’s not as laugh out loud funny as the first movie, but it’s warm and comfortable, which is probably the best kind of Rob Reiner film to watch right now.
Today’s poster is okay- a remake of a poster for a more famous sequel- but it’s personally significant: this is my 250th poster this year. If each poster took an hour (and many of them took more time than that) I’ve spent more than ten full days making these things!

Streaming Movie Adventures: Elf https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/elf-1.jpgLeft me a little cold.
I’ve seen Elf many times, but I’ve never seen it as a complete movie. The first time I watched it was at an early preview screening before most of the effects were completed, so I didn’t know about the animated characters until years later. I’ve watched chunks of it out of order. This time I watched half of it one day and half the next as part of my Stuck in my Hotel Room Movie Party.
Boy, Buddy is annoying. He’s loud, he has no self control, and he’s constantly destroying things. If I were James Caan I’d probably send him to the mail room, too.
Got a pretty good fake poster out of this one. I didn’t even realize the original poster used Christmas colors until I was laying out the text!

Movie Pass Adventures: Hamnet https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/hamnet-1.jpgNow I want someone to use Simpsons characters to make Steamed Hamnet.
Has a hard time getting started, but it gets there.
Also: Jacobi Jupe deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
I almost didn’t do this fake poster because I didn’t want to recreate the title type. Then I learned it’s a barely altered font and decided to go for it. Then I realized halfway in that there’s a ton of custom shading and I ended up doing more work than I expected. But I think it’s funny, so it’s worth it.

Streaming Movie Adventures: Jay Kelly https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/jay-kelly-1.jpgPuppy.
I had planned on seeing this in a theater, but I only got around to it when it was streaming- and even then, it took being stuck in a hotel room to get me to watch.
The acting is strong, George Clooney is charming, Adam Sandler again shows he’s good at serious parts, Billy Crudup has a scene that steals the movie. But I had a hard time connecting to a story about a massively successful movie star who has trouble with real world relationships. I think I would have been more engaged if the movie was from Crudup’s point of view, or if both stories were told in parallel.
Today’s fake poster comes from a different new movie that’s about a much less successful performer.

Walk of Fame Movies: Straight Shooting with Harry Carey https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/straight-shooting-1.jpgHarry Carey never called a Cubs game.
This is John Ford’s first full length film, and he made it through trickery. He was supposed to shoot a two-reeler, but pretended some of the film was damaged during shooting so they’d give him more stock.
This was not Harry Carey’s (1521 Vine Street) first appearance as Cheyenne Harry. He first play the character a decade earlier, and played him in dozens of movies. When movies went to sound he was too old to play leads, but he was a popular character actor for decades.
Today’s fake poster is all about shooting.

Classic Movie Adventures: The Cameraman https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-cameraman-2.jpgNew York sure throws a lot of ticker-tape parades.
Buster Keaton is SO DAMN GOOD at making ridiculous situations seem plausible. You’ve been separated from your date on a double-decker bus? Obviously, you should climb down the side and sit on the fender next to her. Lost your swimsuit in the public bath? The only solution is to steal someone else’s pants.
Hey, look- there’s actually a connection between this movie and the one the fake poster is based on!

Walk of Fame Movies: Hold That Ghost with Joan Davis https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/hold-that-ghost-1.jpgForget Abbott & Costello- watch for Joan Davis!
I watched a VHS rip of this from the Internet Archive. I only watched Abbott & Costello if it was the only thing on TV when I was a kid, so the picture quality felt right.
The story was the same structure I remembered: Someone needs to do an unpleasant/scary/dangerous thing, and Abbott browbeats Costello into doing it. And the Andrews sisters show up to sing a couple of songs.
The best part of this movie is Joan Davis (1521 Vine Street). She’s got great timing and was a gifted physical comedian. I need to find more of her stuff.
Today’s fake poster is brought to you by the word “that.”

Walk of Fame Movies: The Battle of the Sexes and Belle Bennett https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-battle-of-the-sexes-1.jpgD.W. Griffith sure likes his morality plays.
Not really a battle of the sexes; more of a dumb husband deciding to leave his wife for a gold digger. Not great.
Belle Bennett started as a child performer in the circus, but by this time she had been typecast as “the mother.” She died of cancer at 41, four years after this movie was released.
Ooooh! There was a movie this year with “Battle” in the title and a poster that’s not too hard to mimic!

Monsterdon Adventures: The She-Creature https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-she-creature-1.jpgSee it with snarky friends or don’t see it at all!
This is one of those “terrible to watch alone, fun to heckle with a group” movies. Also: ancient female fish monsters apparently had enormous breasts.
As soon as I saw the monster with her arms in the air I knew exactly which poster I was going to copy.

Movie Pass Adventures: Dust Bunny https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/dust-bunny-1.jpgGood thing she had that wheeled hippo.
When I told my spouse I was going to see Dust Bunny, they said “But that’s a horror movie, and you don’t like horror movies.” That’s not exactly true these days, but usually I’d prefer to not see a splatterfest. Lucky for me then that this is about as much of a horror movie as Beetlejuice.
I made FOUR fake posters today- a personal best! I’m also ten posters behind- a personal worst!

Walk of Fame: All-American Co-Ed and Frances Langford https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/all-american-co-ed-1.jpgA boy pretending to be a girl??? Why, that’s crazy!
I watched this movie a month ago but forgot to do the review & poster thing for it- probably because I didn’t care for it.
The plot: a women’s horticultural college named Mar Brynn (gee, where did they get that name?) decides to boost their flagging enrollment by forbidding frat boys from Quinceton (gee, where did they get that name?) from coming on campus. Luckily for the Quinceton boys, they just did a drag show on campus, so they send Bob, one of their members, in drag to infiltrate the school. A boy acting like a girl? CRAZY! Then the hi-jinks start, and don’t end until the school puts on a big musical number and the boy and the lead girl fall in love. Along the way, Jim Rockford’s dad tries to hook up with the boy while he’s cross-dressing, and the Skipper from Gilligan’s Island carries a small plant.
Frances Langford (1500 Vine Street) is Virginia, the girl Bob falls for. She was a popular singer who also did a ton of USO shows with Bob Hope. I wish I’d seen her in a better film.
And I wasted a good original poster on this thing.

Classic James Bond meets grindhouse meets art film. It’s not always easy to follow, but it sure is pretty. Also: somebody watched Danger: Diabolik!

Walk of Fame Movies: Picture Snatcher and Alice White https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/picture-snatcher-1.jpgJimmy Cagney sure made a lot of tough guy action comedies.
Jimmy Cagney sure made a lot of tough guy action comedies.
Alice White (1511 Vine Street) plays the bad woman trying to cheat on her boyfriend with Cagney. White’s real life sounds like it came out of one of these Cagney movies: her career was derailed when she and her boyfriend were accused of hiring someone to beat up her ex. She ended up leaving acting and becoming a secretary. It sounds like she didn’t miss it; her quote at MUBI on her filmography page is “I wouldn’t be a movie star again for all the tea in China.”
What do you get when a movie has very few available decent images and the title contains a word from a movie with a very simple poster? You get this:

Walk of Fame Movies: The Divorce of Lady X and Binnie Barnes https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-divorce-of-lady-x-1.jpgMerle Oberon sure likes messing with Laurence Olivier.
Very odd to see the leads of Wuthering Heights in a goofy rom-com. Fun, though!
Binnie Barnes (1501 Vine Street) had a 50 year run on screen. She had dozens of roles, but don’t expect any of those parts to be a frail and fainting weakling. She once said “One picture is just like another to me, as long as I don’t have to be a sweet woman.” Good for her!
Today’s poster is from a movie about a different lady.

Walk of Fame Movies: Libeled Lady and Jack Conway
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/libeled-lady-1.jpgTrouble at work? You can solve it by getting your fiancee to marry someone else!
One of the best things about this Walk of Fame project is seeing classic actors do things I didn’t know they did. I’ve seen William Powell do a bunch of suave & sophisticated parts, but I’d never seen him do broad physical comedy. Watching him try to fish was a whole new experience.
Before Jack Conway (1500 Vine Street) started directing, he was a silent film actor. Most of his parts were in Westerns, which explains his cowboy outfit in this picture.
Today’s fake poster is based on one for a movie that as far as I can tell has zero connection to this one.

Really Long Movie Adventures: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/kill-bill-the-whole-bloody-affair-1.jpgLike most Tarantino movies, I like the parts better than the whole thing.
When this was two movies, the pacing of the second one always seemed strange, and it’s even stranger as one big movie. The first half spends a huge amount of time building up The Bride and O-Ren Ishi, and their final battle feels earned.
Then intermission hits, and the second half moves at a much slower pace. We learn more about Bill, but it’s almost all from other people talking about him. The final battle is more of a conversation than a fight. I like that in theory, but as it’s done here it feels anti-climactic.
Today’s fake poster is based solely on the other movie also having a rhyming title.

Retro Movies: A Bucket of Blood
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/a-bucket-of-blood-1.jpgDick Miller’s finest leading man role.
I’m pretty sure plaster doesn’t work like that.
What’s weirder than a 1959 Roger Corman movie about a busboy at a beatnik bar becoming a celebrated artist by murdering people and coating them in plaster? A 1995 nearly shot-for-shot remake starring Anthony Michael Hall and a busload of character actors you’ll recognize. I didn’t watch the remake, but everything in the trailer happened in the original movie (but with less nudity).
Today’s fake poster comes from a different movie that mixes art and murder.

Retro Movie Adventures: The Fabulous Baron Munchausen
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-fabulous-baron-munchausenUntitled-1.jpgThis movie looks so damn cool.
I like this eighty times more than Terry Gilliam’s movie. It’s easily my favorite Czech fantasy story based on a German story about the fictionalized adventures of a real human.
I had to look up how I used to do fake cross-hatching for this poster. It’s not quite right, but I did it last night when I should have been sleeping so I’m calling it good enough.
Today’s fake poster comes from a different movie about people going on crazy adventures.

Old Movie Adventures: The Monster Maker
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-monster-maker-2.jpgMy friend’s grandfather, Terry Frost, was a character actor who appeared in hundreds of movies from the forties to the sixties. Letterboxd only lists 89, but I’m guessing many of his parts were uncredited. I’d never seen any of his movies. Most of his movies were westerns, but this sci-fi horror flick had the largest part of his that I could find to watch, so I went with it.
It’s exactly what […]
My friend’s grandfather, Terry Frost, was a character actor who appeared in hundreds of movies from the forties to the sixties. Letterboxd only lists 89, but I’m guessing many of his parts were uncredited. I’d never seen any of his movies. Most of his movies were westerns, but this sci-fi horror flick had the largest part of his that I could find to watch, so I went with it.
It’s exactly what you’d expect from a 40s science fiction b-movie. Low budget, short, full of nonsense science, wild coincidences, and a laboratory with a gorilla for no reason other than mad scientist’s labs are supposed to have gorillas. A perfectly acceptable excuse to sit in the dark and eat popcorn.
Today’s fake poster is the third one I’ve done based on a movie from the seventies’ “classy porn” period. The others are here and here. I picked it mainly because there are very few decent quality images available from this movie. But I did learn how to load alternate characters from a font into Photoshop. I was afraid I’d have to draw them in manually.

Walk of Fame Movies: Devil’s Doorway and Robert Taylor
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/devils-doorway-1.jpgNo relation to Hell’s Highway.
While it’s pretty impressive that this 75 year old movie says “hey, the USA did handle indigenous populations correctly,” it’s also a movie with a very white lead actor in full on red face.
Also: it’s certainly not the fault of the movie, but it is weird that the subtitles for a film about people being forcibly ejected from their land choose to show all the Shoshone dialogue as “SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE.”
Another thing that’s not the fault of the movie: Every time I hear “Devil’s Doorway” I think of Satan’s Alley.
Robert Taylor (1500 Vine Street) looks plain silly in his dark makeup and light eyes, but his actual performance isn’t as stereotypical as you might expect.
OH LOOK A POSTER!

Walk of Fame Movies: The Squeaker and William K. Howard
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/the-squeaker-2.jpgThere is a shocking lack of mice in this film.
If your whodunit only has one reasonable suspect, it’s not much of a whodunit. Even the characters in the movie know it’s a flimsy story; the lead detective’s method to sole the crime is pretty much “I’ll stand near that guy until he screws up.”
William K. Howard (1500 Vine Street) directed over 50 movies, and at his peak was considered a leading director. Not that you can tell that from this movie. ZING!
Today’s fake poster might make you think of merlot.

Walk of Fame Movies: Lights of New York and Helene Costello
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/lights-of-new-york-1.jpgNew York is apparently a rough place to be a barber.
Lights of New York is the first “all-talking” picture. Other movies had synchronized sections, but this is the first one that synchronized the whole movie. It’s a pretty terrible movie, but that’s no surprise. Most of the effort probably went into capturing sound, and it was probably very expensive to do multiple takes or camera angles; it’s full of stiff, unbroken scenes.
Helene Costello (1500 Vine Street) is another casualty of the jump from silent films to talkies. She’s buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in Calvary Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles. And she wasn’t related to Lou Costello, but he claimed he changed his last name to Costello to honor her.
Today’s fake poster is based on one from a different story of New York.

Movie Pass Adventures: Sentimental Value
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/sentimental-value-1.jpgOoh la la.
More saccharine than I expected, but far less saccharine than you’d think from the trailer’s use of Ooh La La by The Faces. Strong performances all around, but it never quite pulled me in.
I’m way behind in my fake poster for real movie based on real poster for other movie project, so I’m starting to lean in to the simpler ones. At this rate my last one will be a remake of the advance poster for Ant-Man.

Classic Movie Pass Adventures: A Matter of Life and Death
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/a-matter-of-life-and-death-1.jpgDid you know David Niven was charming? IT’S TRUE!
There’s a scene in the first Captain America movie that homages the first scene in this film. David Niven is a pilot who manages to contact a radio officer on the ground. He knows the plane is going to crash and is certain he will die. In the few minutes they have they manage to fall in love. It’s absurd and it works- just like the rest of this movie. Is it a war romance? A medical drama? A study of religion? A courtroom drama? An argument about American and British sensibilities?
Yes it is.
Is it about a crazed fan of a talk show? Nope, but somehow that’s the movie poster I copied.

Monsterdon Movie Adventures: The Food of the Gods
https://www.ga2so.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/the-food-of-the-gods.jpgBehold, the dumbest hero!
Bert I. Gordon sure loves “Eat and Get Large” movies.
Marjoe Gortner is a football player who confidently makes bad decisions that get people killed. Pamela Martin plays the woman whose type is apparently “guys who look like scared birds who believe they are always right.” Together they fight giant rats that are actually normal-sized mice or cheap rat costumes.
The lesson I learned from this movie: If you find a mysterious puddle of white goo, you probably shouldn’t eat it.
Today’s fake poster is based on a different exploration of the unpredictable effects of deities on mankind.

I'm not creative enough to keep coming up with taglines to my fake movies.
This is just a fun process to play with. It either gets my idea out, or inspires me with things I'm not really sure about yet.
Like, if I know roughly what I want but not exactly it helps to see different variations. It kind of helps you visually brainstorm.

Decided to go with more women in the next batch instead of groups of men.
