  2. #Biocultural families: Study centers #Indigenous priorities in connections to #environment

by Seth Truscott, August 11, 2026

"Washington State University horticulturist #JeffreyWall partnered with members of the #Mikmaq #FirstNations people of #Canada to create a new, #IndigenousCentered model of the connections that link humans with plants, animals and the environment.

"Wall interviewed over a dozen traditional knowledge keepers in Unama'ki, the #CapeBreton Island homeland of the Eskasoni Mi'kmaq. He asked tribal elders and allies to describe #BioculturalConnectivity — the relationship between human cultures and local #ecosystems — as they see it. The findings were published in Environmental Science & Policy.

" 'I wanted to show the connective forces that the Mi'kmaq prioritize,' Wall said. 'The goal was to be in tune with their deep #CulturalHeritage, traditions and the #indigenization of the future that they want to promote.'

"With more than 66,000 registered members, the Mi'kmaq are a resilient people native to the U.S. Northeast and Canada's Atlantic provinces who are revitalizing their language and growing their landholdings. Wall's work can guide future mapping and inform the institute's land acquisition strategy.

"The project reflects the concept of #TwoEyedSeeing — understanding the world from both #Indigenous and #Western approaches — introduced by Mi'kmaq elders Albert and Murdena Marshall.

" 'There is a growing understanding that environmental conditions can improve if we bring more Indigenous ways of knowing and being into the conversation,' said Lisa Young, executive director of the Unama'ki Institute of Natural Resources. 'Maintaining a #reciprocal relationship with the land is in itself a way to protect and preserve it.' "

#Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy: Imagining #Namibia’s Bright Future

    10.11.2025

"Step into a vision of Namibia’s future powered by creativity and clean energy. Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy opened at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre in Windhoek, blending art, science fiction, and sustainability. Created by Namibian artist #VitjituaNdjiharine and Spanish artist #RocíoAsensi, the exhibition invites visitors to imagine hopeful, #regenerative futures rooted in #NamibianCulture.

"The Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) came alive on 30 October 2025 as art lovers, sustainability advocates and curious visitors gathered for the opening of Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy, an interactive exhibition inviting audiences to imagine Namibia’s future powered by creativity and #RenewableEnergy.

"The exhibition marks the first public presentation of works by Namibian artist Vitjitua Ndjiharine and Spanish artist Rocío Asensi, created during their joint residency in Swakopmund in August 2025. Their collaboration blends science fiction, #EnvironmentalAwareness and cultural storytelling, a visual dialogue between sand, sun and imagination.

"Under the leadership of the Goethe-Institut Namibia, and in cooperation with #TheProjectRoom, the Solarpunk project was selected from 47 international applications as part of the EUNIC Cluster Fund 2024/2025. The initiative forms part of the EUNIC Namibia Cluster, a partnership between the Goethe-Institut Namibia, Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, Club Italiano Namibia, Embassy of Spain, Embassy of Finland, Camões Namíbia and the European Union in Namibia.

"At its core, Solarpunk embodies a #RadicalOptimism, envisioning communities built on #sustainability, #inclusion, and #SharedResponsibility. Visitors explored installations that merge #NaturalMaterials with #FuturisticDesign, inviting reflection on Namibia’s abundant solar and wind energy potential, and the role of local identity in shaping a sustainable tomorrow. The exhibition’s participatory elements encouraged dialogue and imagination, a space where art becomes a tool for envisioning change

"By grounding its vision in Namibian traditions, cultural practices and environmental realities, Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy challenges audiences to rethink what the future can look like when creativity and community come together."

  4. Climate Disasters Do Not Automatically Lead To Greater Care For The World

Getty Images/iStcokphoto During the second half of the 20th century, the number of disasters occurring each year worldwide increased twentyfold. Since 2000, they have reached a high plateau, hovering around 600 disasters per year. Since 2000, these disasters have killed, injured or left homeless an average of 200 million people each year, representing 2.5% of the global population. If we make the rather unrealistic assumption that the distribution of these events is equally probable – […]

  7. Nature never takes a holiday.We are open 365 days 500 words

Nature never takes a holiday. It works silently and constantly, shaping life every moment of the day and every season of the year. From the rising sun that warms the earth to the gentle rains that nourish the soil, nature is always active, always providing, and always sustaining life without pause or discrimination.

Unlike human systems that require breaks, schedules, and closures, nature functions continuously. Trees do not stop producing oxygen at night. Rivers do not stop flowing because it is a weekend. Birds do not delay their migration because of a calendar. Every element of the natural world plays its role in a never-ending cycle of balance and renewal.

This constant activity of nature is a reminder of how life is interconnected. When forests grow, they purify the air. When flowers bloom, they support pollinators like bees and butterflies. When soil remains healthy, it produces food that sustains humans and animals alike. Everything is in motion, everything is connected, and everything contributes to the greater harmony of the ecosystem.

Inspired by this eternal rhythm, we remain open 365 days a year. Just like nature, our commitment does not pause. Whether it is spring or winter, morning or evening, we are dedicated to serving those who seek connection with green life, medicinal plants, herbal knowledge, and sustainable environmental practices. Our mission is to support people in discovering the healing and nurturing power of plants throughout the year.

In regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where biodiversity is rich and landscapes are deeply intertwined with culture, nature plays an even more significant role. The mountains, valleys, rivers, and forests are not just scenic beauty; they are living resources that support livelihoods, health, and ecological balance. Preserving and promoting this natural heritage requires continuous effort, awareness, and participation.

Being open 365 days is not just a statement of availability—it is a reflection of responsibility. It means that nature-inspired work does not stop. Seeds must be nurtured, saplings must be cared for, medicinal plants must be studied, and environmental awareness must be shared without interruption. Every day is an opportunity to contribute to a greener and healthier future.

In today’s world, where environmental challenges are increasing, the message of “nature never takes a holiday” becomes even more important. Climate change, pollution, and deforestation are ongoing issues that require ongoing solutions. Continuous effort is the only way to restore balance and protect what nature has given us.
We believe that staying open 365 days symbolizes dedication to life itself. Just as nature continues its work without pause, we remain committed to our role in supporting ecological growth, herbal knowledge, and sustainable living. Every day is a chance to plant, to learn, to grow, and to heal.

In the end, nature teaches us the greatest lesson: consistency is life. And by aligning ourselves with that principle, we ensure that our work remains as alive, active, and eternal as nature itself.

  10. Greetings to All
Sparrows play an important role in maintaining ecological balance. They feed on small insects found on plants, trees, and in the surrounding environment. By helping to control insect populations, sparrows indirectly contribute to a healthier environment and may reduce the spread of certain pests that can affect human health.
