Got to hand it to #wger and #endurain if you make a container so difficult to configure to your current system that its easier just to spin up a new VM to use. Then its really a waste of my time and yours.

The project is not paused. The focus is shifting from new features to strengthening the foundations.

As a big #sport and #opensource / #decentralisation enthusiast, I am excited today to discover #Endurain, a (not so new) project that could very well replace #Strava.
The integration to ActivityPub is among their planned features.

Check out #Endurain. It currently supports pulling workouts and stats from Strava or Garmin. Its really good and getting better all the time. ActivityPub integration is planned for the future too.

@hoffmann All my devices are Garmin devices, so Garmin is my main ecosystem. From there I synced to Strava, which I used in the past for keeping track of friends, etc. From Strava I synced further to Veloviewer for tiling/exploring.

Strava went AI, which came at a point where I was not using Strava anymore other than syncing Veloviewer. I started to look for alternatives for tiling/exploring, wich I found in Squadrats (Polish). They can sync directly from Garmin as well. So I cancelled my Strava subscription and moved to Garmin --> Squadrats. Today I deleted Strava and Veloviewer accounts.

In addition to Garmin I selfhost #Endurain (also on Fediverse via @endurain):

It pulls my Garmin activities locally, so I always have a local copy and could kill my Garmin account at any time.

Of course I would have to start downloading the fit-files from my devices manually and upload them in Endurain (currently a bridge too far for me, so I still have my Garmin account for now).

I've tested latest docker image of #endurain on fresh database and it looks great. 💪
I've noticed after importing garmin activities through the "import menu" with the garmin api, trail activities and track run activities are recognized as regular workout (not running).

2. converted my 'Activities' from #tcx to #gpx using tcx2pgx https://pypi.org/project/tcx2gpx/
(but I probably could have used #gpsbabel)
3. now bulk importing 1000+ gpx tracks into #endurain

Just installed #Endurain and imported my actvities that I had gotten by requesting my data archive at Strava. Around 90 fit-files were not able to bulk-import. 1290 files were successful. A shame that they are all getting imported with the description "Workout" and not how they were named at Strava. Probably this info is not in the fit-files. but am not sure.

First overall impression is good! @endurain has done a great job so far. 👌
