Reminder: emergency prep means digital too; if you had to leave you home in a hurry, besides your important physical documents, what’s your plan for evacuating your data?
Mine is an external hard-drive that a nightly script backs up all my important/irreplaceable files to. (Photos, home movies, documents, etc.)
If the shit hits the fan It’s grab-and go.

For those of you who live in an area where you need to keep a store of fresh water for emergencies, what’s your system? I bought a few flats of plastic water bottles, but I never drink bottled water so I feel like I’m just going to be buying and then tossing these (or at most using them to water plants).

Inspired by this weather to make some progress on our go-bags, documenting here in case it helps anyone.
I've separated the contents into some plastic freezer bags to help keep fresh & dry in case of a flood/storm.
So far each bag contains:
Food in plastic bag:
nature valley granola bars, mixed x6
fruit in jelly cups x3
flavoured tuna tins x3 (pull tab tops)
Whittaker's peanut/almond slabs x2
cheap metal spoons x2(what food to pack is highly subjective, as long as it keeps well)
Hygene kit in plastic bag:
Colgate travel dental kit (brush, paste, floss, mouth wash)
hand sanitiser
aquatabs (water sterlising tabs)
face masks
set of disposable silverwear
First Aid Kit:
a small pre-made personal first aid kit to which I've added some panadol and savlonStill heaps to add to these, but it's a good start. Next up: water bottles, rain ponchos, flashlights, jumpers, phone chargers, important documents (or copies of)

I hate it when I know that I've forgotten to do something important. Suddenly, I'm jolted from sleep in a moment of extreme focusedness . . . I need to recharge the battery of my portable jump starter. I should schedule the event in my calendar.
This is a gentle reminder to test the batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, emergency flashlights and radios. Also, check emergency water, fuel, and food supplies, first aid kits and replenish, as necessary.

What don't I know about water filters that I need to know?
My needs are complicated. I'm not ready to buy (I wish I were!) but better start educating myself.
1. I live in a very small space with no running water, and my immediate need is a water container that fits in a small sink where I can fill a smaller vessel from a spout. (Don't need a filter for this, but hoping to fill both needs.) Tall and narrow shape is best for this space.
2. I have limited amperage, so it would also be nice if the container/filter worked without constant power. Battery/charge power is probably ok.
3. I know nothing about what needs filtering out. Right now I'm getting potable water where I have to drive fairly far, which I don't mind.
But there's a well on the property that is sufficient for cleaning, but apparently it's got nasty stuff in it for drinking. The property owner also brings in water for drinking even though she has a filter (she runs her potable water through a gravity filter). Apparently she does not trust her filter for the well water. It smells of sulfur sometimes, and she says it's got uranium? idk! (I've drank water with sulfer – Icelandic hot water is super sulfery, and this person used to live in a small town near where I grew up with sulfer water that she and I drank plenty of).
Is there a filter that will clean whatever she's worried about in this water? Or does she know what she's talking about and I should keep poting? What about in an emergency where there is no gas and I can't get potable water from town? Is there maybe even just a simple filter I can store for emergencies to use on the well water?
4. Bonus if it doesn't cost $500000. I've already spent enough money on this venture!
