  15. Another early start. Another train. I’ve been booked to look at a WiFi install at a large brewery in London. Ever since they installed the WiFi it’s not performed well. Various engineers have looked and played remotely with various settings and it’s not made any difference. The vendor (not surprisingly!) said the issue was probably due to using old software. So they installed the very latest. No difference. Pretty sure my #Ekahau Sidekick will reveal what’s going on 😀

  18. “Specification creep”. You’re given a spec to work with before arrival and as soon as you get there it changes. Small changes you accept but when the change is large you have to say no. On this occasion I was told not to #Ekahau survey the 140+ apartments on 14 floors and only cover WiFi in the corridors and common areas as they will be treated as “independent homes” with FTTH and they’ll each have their own home router. My days here just got easier! Yeah, I’ll accept this major spec change! 😀

  21. I’m on a Southeastern train going into London for another #Ekahau WiFi Survey this morning. I’m having a ‘Scottish’ breakfast with mediocre coffee. It’s peak commuting time. Carriage is half empty. It has a working AirCon. No loud phone calls. Ticket inspector walks through stating “anyone want to buy or print out any tickets?” without checking anyone has a valid ticket. I think I may still be asleep dreaming this. 🤣

  24. @nickshore Just love these guys. Made an order for a load of #Ubiquiti #UniFi gear yesterday at 3pm. Just 10 minutes later I get an email saying it’s packed and they’re waiting for the courier to pick up. All arrived safely this morning and it means I’ll be ready for an install on Saturday followed by an #Ekahau Wireless Survey to confirm it’s worked. (As an aside LinITX, Isn’t it time you were on here?!) 😀

  28. Some days are very satisfying when I visit a client’s HQ in central London complaining of 40% packet loss and speeds of 80-90Mbps on their WiFi. After a site survey with Ekahau I soon find the problem. Incorrect AP power levels. Too much 2.4 coverage. Plenty of co-channel interference. 802.11b enabled. All very basic L1 problems and easily resolved as can be seen from the final speed test before leaving site. #Ekahau #BadWiFi

  31. Off to West London to conduct an #Ekahau based Wireless Diagnostics Survey. Client has had problems since the install of this UniFi system by a third party. No matter what they’ve done it’s been unreliable. Even #Ubiquiti Support have been involved and claim there is nothing wrong with the firmware or config. They say “it has to be the property itself doing it” and closed the case. I’ve not promised the client I’ll definately find anything wrong, but I’ll give it my best shot. 🧐

  34. @steve Good point. But the signal is not received on the phone. It’s received on dedicated receive only hardware called an #Ekahau SideKick usually worn on my rear hip. I walk in each direction back and forth so any difference caused by shielding by my body is cancelled out. I also turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth on my phone so that’s doesn’t affect the results either.

  38. WiFi surveying a very large and empty field for fun and profit using #Ekahau Site Survey in GPS mode. First time I’ve plotted out how good the newly installed WiFi is in a field. Or used GPS mode for that matter. First attempt failed as my iPhone claimed I was in a totally different field. Restarted iPhone and second attempt was spot on right. 🤷‍♂️. I think if I do any more of these I’ll invest in an e-scooter!

  42. Another day another dollar. This time the completion of another #Ekahau Site Survey using the #Sidekick and then using that captured data to design the WiFi for a hotel seeking to become known for having the fastest internet rather than the worse (as now). We’re working with internet provider #GoInternet to install gigabit fibre and give them excellent WiFi performance. Reports have been sent to the client. Fingers crossed.
