Random thought today: In #Estonian, one of the ways to ask a worker in the grocery store whether they have something is to ask "Kas oskad öelda kus on X?" ("Can you tell me where X is?").
But the verb "oskama" is also used (among other things) to describe how well you might know a language (e.g., "Ma oskan inglise keelt").
So, in my (arguably) weird brain, I always feel like I'm really saying to them "Hey buddy, are you mentally capable of all the appropriate abilities required to be able to tell me of the existence and location of the particular item I'm looking for? You're familiar with object permanence, right??"
In other words, it feels slightly dickish to ask it that way, but it's a totally acceptable & fine way to ask such a question. I think similarly I'd probably be dissecting the verb "can" in English in a similar way if I hadn't learned it as a native language, so maybe this is just my knack for overanalyzing kicking in.

EKI oma eesti-inglise veebisõnastik ei leidnud midagi ja Google Translate (kahtlane nagu alati) ütleb otses tõlkides, et on "snake words" :^) -
