Dungeon People feels like a pretty average slice of life anime with a fantasy setting. Despite being considered an adventure anime, it's not really about adventure. And while it's also considered a comedy, that's more of a catch-all genre at this point.

While Dungeon People may seem like a dungeon builder anime, it's actually more of a workplace simulator. It takes some of the more interesting things about running a dungeon and turns them into boring 9-to-5 tasks.

Dungeon People has a far more interesting world than I would have guessed. It's just too bad that we don't get to explore it much in the way I would have liked. The series is more about the "backstage" aspects of the dungeon.

Dungeon People Is A Delight To Watch
What I enjoyed most about watching this anime (note: I wish there was a live-action version!) was the twist to the story regarding dungeons. Usually, when a character explores a dungeon, we see it from the adventurer's side.
Dungeon People flips the script, focusing on the operational side of things and what it takes to run, operate, and manage a successful (albeit incredibly violent) dungeon.

While this is a light-hearted story about friendship between two women who attempt to run a complex dungeon, it briefly (albeit creatively) addresses some darker elements in fantasy stories, including sexism, violence against women & responding to injustice.
In one example, the show resolves the goblin issue, as the latter in fantasy stories typically breed by unsolicited sexual encounters.

Also, despite her appearance, dungeon master Bell (her nickname) is no pushover, as this mock fight between Bell and Clay entails.

One of my favorite scenes was watching Clay work as a skeleton and take on local adventures (her battle tactics are amazing!).

Also, Clay battling a dragon coworker in the training room was fun to watch!

Dungeon People Episode 1 Impressions
I found this enjoyable. The premise is fun in which its about dungeon administration. The character design isn't top notch, but its pleasing in its own way.
I hope it can hold up for 12 episodes, but I'm excited to keep watching more right now.

#MangaMonday 14 “Dungeon People” by Sui Hutami (sometimes rendered as Futami)
Clay is an Explorer/Thief delving a dungeon. Her father disappeared there three years ago and she’s determined to find out what happened to him. During a fight on the eighth floor, an accidentally destroyed wall reveals the dungeon’s administrative area(!) and she ends up getting hired onto the managerial side.
This #manga falls into the “Mystery Behind the Fantasy World” sub-genre (c.f. “Delicious in Dungeon” and “Helck.”) This particular dungeon is different from others for some reason, and Clay still has to find her father (or his fate.)
The art style is a simple one, but it gets the job done and the action is never confusing. There's no fanservice—appropriate for a character like Clay—and Hutami even pokes fun at some fantasy tropes.
Ongoing with three of five volumes in English (Seven Seas.) The next drops in September. An #anime starts this Friday.
