New Read - Manga Biographies: Charles M. Schulz
This is a biography of Charles M. Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comics.
I mean, it's the life of him...in manga form. It's cute and I did learn some things I didn't know about him. Like that his nickname was Sparky; that he had 5 kids with his first wife; and that he was a big hockey player.
Schulz had an interesting life; sad at times, especially with the early loss of his Mom and breakdown of his first marriage after having five kids. But, overall, he (according to this) seemed like he had a pretty happy life.
I picked this up on a lark from my local public library, but glad I did. Ended up enjoying it more than I expected.

#MangaMonday “At Summer’s End” by Takuya Nishio
Natsukawa is a middle school girl with developing feelings for her classmate, Aihara. Naturally, there are complications. It’s a slow burn tale of first love, but avoids idealization. Natsukawa can be selfish, and a little mean.
The art is singular. Nishio provides a watercolor “cover” for every chapter, and the sparse lines of watercolor sketches carry through to the manga’s art. There’s no variation in the strokes and very little use of hatching. When detail is calle for it’s usually provided by meticulous outlines. Curiously, a lot of interiors have a slight fish-eye perspective.
It’s currently being “simulreleased” on the MangaPlus website/app. Right now you can read it all for free, but they normally only keep six chapters at a time outside the paywall. It’s at chapter 6 as of today, but chapters 1 & 2 were released as one, so I’m not sure how they’re counted.
