  30. My choice for #SaturdayOnStage goes way back in history. The Ravens were one of the most influential early rhythm and blues vocal groups. Here's a rare January 2, 1949 appearance on the Talk of the Town TV show, which was hosted by Ed Sullivan:

  33. I just found out that there's a large new selection of vintage doowop videos available on YouTube. These were filmed at one of the first "revival" shows at the New York Academy of Music in 1970.

The technical quality is not great, as there was only one camera, and much of the footage is very grainy. But then again, where else you can see many of these groups performing with the original or nearly original line-up, with proper orchestral backing, and with the original doowop era still a fairly recent memory?

My #SaturdayOnStage pick for today is a perfomance by the Skyliners, with only Jackie Taylor missing from the original line-up of the group. They start of with their version "Pennies from Heaven", which I have never really cared for, but get to the good stuff at around three minutes with "This I Swear", one of my all-time favorite doowop ballads. Jimmy Beaumont's vocals are just about as incredible as they had been on the original record 11 years earlier.
