A little #Introduction to my blogs for the #IndieWeb
I have several blogs, mostly because I like building websites. I'm playing around with Astro and love the variety of sites that I've made. Here is what you can find.
BeautyOfMathematics.com - My website about math anxiety. Hoping to help people cope with their fear of math and any trauma they have.
I'm about to go back to working on my Annotated Numberphile series. Where I watch a year's worth of videos and highlight my favorites.
SuzzaStitches.com - My photo blog where I discuss my cross stitch and show my progress.
Suzza.dev - An introduction to Astro for people who are starting with it. I highlight all the mistakes that I made and their solutions.
TabletopRPG.space - The place where I discuss Actual plays for #DND. I went on a hiatus because I wasn't keeping up with stuff. Now, I plan to return to discuss new episodes of Critical Role Campaign 4 and the next #Dimension20 series.
I'm also working on a personal website that will aggregate all the content and put it in one place. So I only have to refer to one website to share with people. Also, to use as a portfolio for job hunting.

The #Dimension20 Never Stop Blowing Up game system was one of the most fun systems I ran in 2025!
I made a video talking about the experience which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/b8uJa2mRHMk

Talking with my fiancée about how Brennan Lee Mulligan really only seems to know how to tell two types of ttrpg stories.
Apocalypse stories or goofy romps. Nothing in-between. Nothing that blends them.
So on the one hand you get Crown of Candy, Calamity, Campaign 4. Neverafter.
On the other you get Fantasy High, Never Stop Blowing Up, CCoD.
You get either no stakes or all the stakes.

I'm enjoying #Dimension20 City Council of Darkness, but honestly the biggest WTF moment was what the Justiciar stated out loud what he did early in the final episode. Instant blood hunt badness, like the worst thing. Nobody would say that, even if everyone knew. :(
-
For those who don't have a background in VtM, what happened in #CityCouncilOfDarkness's finale was a bit like if a D&D party that started at level 3, after 8 short sessions and maybe 2 levels, killed Vanathor with a fire bolt.
Or maybe, for something more people would recognize but a little less 1:1, Vecna with a magic missile.
That's the kind of inanity we're talking about.
-
I know that Brennan knows VtM and knows how to both play in and run this setting, so it was disappointing to see the crew go so wildly off the rails here.
In an actual VtM setting they would have received the head of the archon who spared them and sent them to Purpee, nicely gift wrapped, killed for allowing them to continue. Because the initial violations were bad enough, but then their continued violations were just something else. A true demonstration of incompetence to exile them but then ignore them while they still cause damage.
Then they would have all died. If we recalibrated to a lower threshold of lethality they still would have been rebuked for their antics and not just allowed to keep going. Depending on the justicar it may have also involved killing all of their sires and their progeny as well. _That's_ the level of violation we're talking about here.
And you can even get away with THAT if you are building a parody correctly, but in order to parody something you actually have to actually engage with the base source material (it's "what we do in the shadows" not "what we do in wal mart"), and they didn't do that.
Someone pointed out that this really should have been a Kids on Bikes game and I 100% agree with that. Rather than trying to make it fit the VtM rules and system, just put whatever aesthetics you want on top of Kids on Bikes.
Not everything needs to be Campaign 4, or Mothership, or Wraith. But on the other hand comedy just sort of falls apart if it doesn't have something real to anchor itself against.

I had to tap out of #CityCouncilOfDarkness a while back on #Dimension20. I don't need things to be super serious or to be "teh grimdark" but I do need things to have some sort of internal logic, and the show just struggled to keep its own players in check.
This was especially evident in Ally, who if a bit didn't work would just… keep trying the bit or a variation until it succeeded, and made their character "all bits, all the time."
Like sure it can be fun to frak with the police or whatever, but why are you doing it? What's your motive? Why did you do it in _that way_ and not just use your abilities with dominate or presence or whatever.
And, if you fail at it or frak up the way that they did, why were there no narrative consequences at all for their actions?
In a game ostensibly titled after the Masquerade and which started off with a dire warning about enforcement of the masquerade, they all seemed to just forget about it for the rest of the season, even with Brennan's periodic reminders on the topic.
Then there were no actual consequences or real tone correction. At least as far as I had seen.
I know that this is a crew perfectly suited to a more serious tone when they need it, and who knows that sometimes things don't have to be a bit to be funny or endearing (Crown of Candy, Neverafter, and Burrow's End all coming to mind). It just felt like a completely missed opportunity.
It doesn't even really work as a parody of its own source material. What-we-do-in-the-shadows style. Because in order to parody material you have to actually be… based on that material, and this just wasn't. It borrowed the aesthetics, but that was where it ended. Never engaging with its source material in a meaningful way.

Halfway through the #StartstruckOdyssey finale. What a reveal.

A scene that did not happen that is cannon to me:
To the Mr Ed theme song.
Zaeth: Ghorse is my horse.
Koschei: Your horse?
Zaeth: Yeah, Ghorse.
Ghorse: neigh
Koschei: of Course!

I put my finger on something that has been bothering me.
At some point Ally Beardsley has decided to throw any sense of coherency or character out of the window and do a "oops all bits" approach in #CityCouncilOfDarkness #Dimension20
Which. On the one hand. Fine. They're entertaining and not every game needs to be serious.
But on the other it really undermines the setting and themes emphasizing the importance about the masquerade _at all_ and it makes the game feel narratively inconsistent. Like in the first episode you could be silly (a Banksy?) but it was still considered Important™ within the setting as it was established to respect the Camarilla traditions and the Masquerade in specific. Sure, with silliness and fun, but still. That set the expectation.
So then, in the most recent episodes, when you have Ally—for essentially no reason—running into police precincts and pulling off blatant masquerade violations for no reason other than "for the bit" it feels off.
It isn't just that it doesn't fit the tone of the setting overall. That's what they make of it. It is that it doesn't fit the tone of the setting _as they have established it_.
Brennan did an interesting—and good—thing in this last episode of sort of reminding the characters of the stakes and emphasizing that you can't play both ends without consequence here. He did it in a very in-universe, in-story way that was extremely skillful.
Depending on where they go from here this may help my feelings around this series.

"I'm dogshit at eating wasps :(" is one of the best lines I've ever heard on Dimension 20.

if you like, or are at least curious about, Actual Play stuff, and you rightly think Harry Potter is extremely problematic, I absolutely recommend Dimension 20's deconstruction of it: https://youtu.be/C1VffF1Z5-Y?si=AMM11UmGn2h_JKnn
