  1. I needed a little break from a ternary encoded display, so I went back to one of my old favourites. French Decimal Time 🇫🇷.

As a side note, since it is no longer DST in Europe and I'm the same timezone as the Swatch headquarters 🇨🇭, it's also actually the current valid time in .Beats (a.k.a. Swatch® Internet Time)! 🥳

  6. How about more time trivia then. So what is the deal with 12 hour clocks if we have 24 hours in a day? Furthermore, why 24 hours? And if they are 24 hours in a day, why are there 60 minutes and 60 seconds? This seems illogical, right? Maybe we should decimalize it, like we did with the metric system!

  11. It's that time again. Luckily I have all the tools and a bunch of different batteries, so I can just do this myself.

  12. Sent the first picture to one of my unicycle friends with the comment, "5:80 already, the day is flying by" and he replied with "True" and the second picture.

  13. After two weeks with lots of trains (and hence some precision for times being needed) it is nice to go back to the single handed #DecimalWatch

  14. I'm told the time cannot be 7.86 but if that were true, how come both my watches state this.

  15. @RedFreljordian FWIW Today I am halfbiking™ with my single handed decimal watch. 🤓

  16. Since my LED watch might have upset people (being slightly misaligned) I'll switch back to this.

  17. @encarsia Yeah I definately have that lined up nicely now. This was taken at exactly 5.40 decimal [12:57:36]. Spot on! 😉

Also while this interface is imprecise in measurement, the accuracy is probably better than many of my other cheap watches. It has a Ronda 515.24H quartz movement, that their documentation claims is rated to an accuracy of -10/+20 seconds per month.

In my experience, once I get it set, it hits the markers correctly until the next twice yearly time change.

  18. @moira @jarek No, the seconds are shorter. 1 decimal second is 0.864 SI seconds. 😉

P.S. Yes today I am acting as "reply guy" but since I regularly wear a decimal watch, display decimal time on my Android phone and also have devices that show Swatch .beats, I'll admit I failed to contain myself. 🤪

Anyway here is one of my watches with a picture taken at exactly midnight.

  19. I mentioned to one of my newer colleagues (who is not yet familiar with the full scale of my craziness) that I needed to leave soon as it was already 6:95¹ and hence getting kinda late.

    Him: "No its… wait… what?"

    [I showed him my watch]

    Him: 😕

    ¹ 6:95 = 16:41 [4:41PM]

  20. I never explained directly here how I use the #DecimalWatch.

I am not often converting between decimal and standard time. I just look out for significant events for which I have learnt decimal equivalents, like wake up, kids to school, work start, lunch, work end, etc. It is also nice to track roughly where I am in the progress of a day. There are other time sources at home and the office when I need precision, for meetings I have a calendar. A travel app takes care of public transport times.

  21. But it is 4:00 (09:36) now. So yeah... I should get a move on. This time for realz!!! 😆

  22. I am half-tempted to get the #SensorWatch myself so that I can run the prebuilt alt.time firmware and display Beat Time (a from of decimal time) on a classic Casio. ♥️
