It's my original idea in the form I've built it. The #ddcprinter hashtag stands for "direct digital contact printer"I think there was video on YouTube, where just the display was used for contact prints, but no finished device.
Though I wouldn't rule out the possibility that somewhere someone built a similar device and I just haven't found it. 😅
I'll put the current state of the project on Hackaday when I find the motivation for a detailed writeup.

I added some fans and glued in the display. It's now a lot less melty.

Turns out the print was just *very* underexposed.The problem is that my light source generates a lot of heat, and i fear that the whole thing just melts after the necessary ~48min exposure time. I'll put a heatsink on the lamp and install a few fans.

A #cyanotype printed with my #ddcprinter directly from a digital file.
So the lightsource works and has the right wavelength. Sadly I have issues with the cyanotype process - my images completely wash out when rinsing the cyanotype with water - so this image is not lightfast. -

Display is now connected to the #orangepi
It's definitely a timing issue. gtf is useless, and afaik these kind of displays tend to do some weird stuff (e.g. 1:3 pixel aspect ratio). So I won't get anywhere without a datasheet. I requested one from the manufacturer, hopefully I get it next week.

Current state of the project. After this has been abandoned for half a year, I had to replace a faulty ffc (got bent during transport). Now it's running again and shows my (Windows) Desktop. Tiling due to buggy driverboard, working on a fix. Still didn't get it to talk to my opi.

Time to continue this old project. Last time I only got it to show the screen in small tiles. At first I thought the screen was broken, but in the meanwhile I learned, that this is simply because the driver board expected 8k, but the orangepi only sent 1080p. This should be fixable by manually configuring the display using xrandr.
Now I'm just waiting for Amazon to deliver a new HDMI 2.1 cable, because I can't find the one I bought for this project. 😅

Progress so far. Some parts are missing and the top frame assembly needs to be reprinted, but my build plate decided to give up today.
Replacement will be here tomorrow. -

I'm trying to escape the sunk cost fallacy. I've spent countless hours building a case for my #ddcprinter out of brass and wood. But now that I have way better manufacturing capabilities, I think I have to abandon this approach.
I've completely redesigned the printer. It is now bottom-up instead of top-down. The lightsource consists of a ready-made high power led array from amazon and a diffusor plate made from glass from a picture frame. This should give me even lighting at a very low cost.
