There are but 2 alternatives of that French market research, #Olvid and #DataBag, that still made it...

ABhD, mon entreprise, déploie peu à peu des instances sur le #fediverse .
Pour le moment, #mastodon #pixelfed et #databag sont de la partie.
D'autres plateformes rejoindront prochainement le monde décentralisé de ABhD. Le site https://fediverse.abhd.fr sera mis en ligne demain et permettra un accès simplifié et une ligne de conduite unique.

#Databag seems an interesting project.

It offers federated, decentralised #IM with text, media, video/audio calls, E2E encryption, etc.

I would say it looks very similar to #XMPP.

In all honesty this is how #Matrix should have been handled from the start. With the big names of Matrix and IETF involved, I hope vanilla Matrix, #XMPP providers, platforms like #Databag, and maybe even #IRC networks can more directly federate, and with that firm base, it's only up from there!
