The Last Viking: John Lennon Lives Again
Summary: a man fresh out of prison needs the help of his mentally unwell brother in order to help him find money he buried long ago.
It was during our time at the Mediterrane Film Festival that we saw this and, it was a deeply mixed film. One the one hand it was heart warming in places and had a number of funny jokes, the comedy mostly landed. However, on the other the central character is deeply unlikeable and the film tends to stray too far into the abyss sometimes. One understands it’s a dark comedy film however it must be stated that when this film gets dark it gets really dark.
Mads Mikkelsen shines as Manfred or John Lennon a man with DID, and is the emotional soul of the film you do empathise with him and believe the characters struggle.
Overall, a funny if depressing film.

With DJ, producer and organiser Joost van Bellen, we’ll be watching John Waters’ 1972 cult classic ‘Pink Flamingos’. Before that, at 7 pm, we’ll be watching Lukas Moodysson’s 1998 romantic drama ‘Fucking Åmål’ together with actor/filmmaker Marije van der Made; separate tickets are available for this screening.
The black comedy “Pink Flamingos” is brimming with extravagance, rebellion and unprecedented eccentricity. Divine, as the self-proclaimed “dirtiest person in the world”, takes on a rival duo who want to steal her title. The film is known for its shocking and grotesque scenes, but beneath the provocation lies a celebration of freedom, individuality and the breaking of all conventions. I liked most of the first season of #Obituary but lost all interest early in season 2.
#Sweetpea seemed to have potential, but it became clear in episode 1 that both shows are so similar I have to accuse Obituary of blatant theft from Sweetpea's source material, a series of books first published years before Obituary was released.
Character type, exact same work environment, and general tone are identical.
I won't bother with either.

One of the things I really like about The White Lotus is the way it makes the sea kind of a character, in all sorts of ways. It struck me right from the first season, with the somehow surreal establishing shots of the beach. The eerie sounds of waves sucking at the rocks around the hotel, setting the tone for the scene to follow.
