A very good analysis of the recently Kickstarted #Curseborne #TTRPG from the point of view of a longtime #WorldOfDarkness player.

For my part, I'm glad to see the more local scale of the game and focus on, "general weirdness," and, "creepypasta," rather than a massive metaplot. Definitely standing more on the shoulders of #ChroniclesOfDarkness, which is unsurprising, given its #OnyxPathPublishing origins.

OK so I think #Curseborne might be actually interesting. What I can see on their Kickstarter page points to a hopeful kind of horror where everything is fucked, but you strive to make the best of it with your community or chosen family.

This is genuinely interesting and very different from World of Darkness.

Yes it is World of Darkness, but different enough to be its own IP. And yes that automatically makes it less interesting.

And yes monsters as classes is weird and smells of d20 dreck where you can be a 5th level Werewolf, same as 5th level Librarian in a CoC game.

But, if you squint and try to let go of what you know, taken on its own terms, it could work. It's not a silly crossover for dummies, it is maybe just world out of wack and all these curses build towards something?

I stayed up until silly o'clock to watch the actual play of #Curseborne and the panel discussion the following afternoon. It was interrupted by my progeny taking me out to dinner for an early Father's Day celebration. I can't complain too hard about that.

Waiting until October for the Curseborne Kickstarter will be difficult, but I've waited years for a revitalisation of my favourite TTRPG horror setting, so I can wait a little longer. Some more titbits of lore would be nice, though.
