  1. In an ever more messy online media environment, it can be hard to know where to let ourselves be truly creative. This month on Looks Like New, MEDLab community fellow Andy DiLallo spoke with Yancey Stricker, best known as a co-founder and former CEO of Kickstarter. Strickler's story started on a farm in Virginia before he became a music journalist and founder of a leading tech company. Most recently, he co-founded Metalabel, a new platform that fosters creative expression and meaningful […]
  2. I've been working on slowly getting back into creating illustrations to sell via print-on-demand websites. Mostly as a way to fill in some time and earn a bit of extra money when I am in-between projects in my main line of work.

I cant belive how much I have missed just drawing silly things. Like thinking of some weird idea, making it a reality via some digital art, and putting it out there to see if anyone else digs it.

Like today, I am working on a Raccoon with a knife...just cause that idea was funny to me.

One thing I have found slightly jarring since I was last in the #PrintOnDemand game back in around 2012, is the #SelfPromotion aspect. It used to be that #SocialMedia was an effective and kind of fun way to build an audience and promote my stuff.

Now though, it feels like a game of diminishing returns. A time-intensive, pay-to-be-seen, energy-vampire.

Hats off to the #creatives that have been able to make #SoMe work for them.

  4. Today, I want to give a special shoutout to Asian American creatives. If you were like me, you had it rough going into the design field.

Why? If you were like me and had parents who taught you conflict is bad and that harmony is preferred.

Part of creativity is to have and enjoy the debates that feel like conflict, but aren't really. The best designs are forged through arduous conversation, sharing of perspectives, and refining your thought.
