Visiting The Popular Deaf-Owned and Sign-Centric Mozzeria DC | Somebody Feed Phil
It's disappointing, to say the least, that they're focusing on a Deaf-run restaurant yet instead of hiring a human captioner, they're using #craptions.

YouTube's auto-captions have been getting worse for a while. Today, it rendered @mehdihasan as "Eddie Hustle" and while I'm sure Mehdi's schedule has him hustling about...
EDIT: Just saw "Amish" transcribed as "Officer Justice". Craptions used to be bad, but better than nothing. However, they are swiftly becoming worse than no captions.

Craptions on the YouTube channel for NYC Mayor's presser just rendered "The five boroughs" of NYC as "the five burrows".

We need to ensure all videos used in courses have accurate captions or transcripts. On Windows, I switched to using this WhisperDesktop app: https://github.com/Const-me/Whisper/releases It transcribed a 15 minute video in 30 seconds on my laptop. If that doesn't work, try https://github.com/Topping1/whispercppGUI/releases or MacWhisper on a mac.
I use the ggml-small.en.bin file here: https://huggingface.co/ggerganov/whisper.cpp/tree/main and yt-dlg if I need to temporarily download a youtube video: https://yt-dlg.github.io/yt-dlg/

This is why auto-captions are known as "craptions". Imagine you're taking a class, especially a science class where there are more technical terms the auto-caption won't recognize, and you'll be graded on how well you understood the word salad. #Craptions

Sure, autocaptions are just fine. The software I'm using to jump start a transcript has a Black man saying "whites" where he actually said "rights." I see no problem there. 🙄

@SallyStrange @mzedp honestly? I get that’s it’s funny for hearing folks, but for D/deaf/Hard of Hearing folks who rely on captions, substituting different words for profanity is infantalizing and also confusing.
Otherwise I also liked the video
