  3. First run after 2 weeks of post-marathon recovery. Just wonderful to be on the road again. Lots of sun and shiny happy people (as today is a day-off in DK).

    Distance: 6.63k
    Pace: 5'17"

High: the feeling of sun on my skin
Low: still slight ache in my left foot (collateral from #CphMarathon)

Purpose: have fun, check in with my form, and start practicing for Helsingborg Marathon (#runhbgm, Sep. 7) #EveryRunHasAPurpose

Next race: Solrød Rundt Løbet, 12k (T minus 33 days)

  4. Here we go again.

Running the #CphMarathon was such a good experience that I wanted to do it again. Took some time to find the right race - but lo and behold, I just signed up for the Helsingborg Marathon in September. Looking forward to this and to getting back on the starting line.

    #runhbgm in T minus 112 days.

  5. Funny thing, even though part 4 of my #CphMarathon was very hard physically, I was always on top of things mentally. I still enjoyed it (granted, not as much as before), and I never contemplated quitting. I was at peace with not finishing in the time I had hoped for. It was what it was.

The only disappointment was that the #NikeRunClub app messed things up and didn't track the race...

The last km, I could run faster, finishing with a roar!

  6. So how did #CphMarathon go for me? (continued)

Part 4 went haywire. At 30k, we turned a corner and now faced tough headwind, so things got a lot harder. 36k: the rain started. A decision four hrs earlier caught up with me: I wore t-shirt instead of long-sleeve #running jacket; it was not the right attire. In no time, I was soaked, so cold I was shaking. Legs didn't play along. I feared hyperthermia, turned to running/walking very slowly. I was toast.

  7. So how did #CphMarathon go for me? (continued)

Part 3 went great. I accelerated slightly as I pursued negative split. Felt great, ran with a big smile on my face. Around 29k, legs started to feel a little sore - but there was my wife (surprise!) and she injected new energy into my race. She is the best.

I was on track. I was (or felt like) a golden god of running. I got this.

Then I turned the corner of Enghavevej and Ingerslevsgade...

  8. So how did #CphMarathon go for me?

I had divided it into four parts of 10k (plus the 2.195k cool-down, @recollir). I had decided to take in fuel at all depots, and also did that.

Part 1 went great. Easy pace, stayed exactly on target (I usually start out too fast, but not today), found my place in the group.

Part 2 went great. Easy pace, stayed exactly on target and in my group. What a party at Dronning Louises Bro and Nørrebrogade.

  9. #CphMarathon done!!

This was fun! And hard! But mostly fun. The feeling I have now (apart from *very* sore legs) is that I want to do this again.

My goal: to cross the starting line ✅
My hope: to enjoy the race ✅
My pipe dream: to finish in 4:15:00 or less ❌

I finished in 4:38:25. Not as fast as hoped for, but who cares? I'm beyond proud and happy.

A big thank you to the cheering crowds of Copenhagen. You were chaos, you were revelry.

  10. I got here not least because of the support.

Thank you, everyone in the Mastodon #running and #MastoRunDK communities, for cheering me on along the way. You know, who you are, and I see you.

Thank you, @coachbennett. See(/hear) you on my next starting line in a moment.

And thank you, everyone who will be in the streets of Copenhagen to cheer, and everyone who helps with the practical stuff of #CphMarathon. It matters *a lot*.

    Thank you so much!

  11. My plan is to run the marathon as four consecutive 10k races. 10k is doable - I have run that distance numerous times over the last year, and I can do it again. 10k is easier to deal with mentally than 42.195k.

For these four "races", Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Taylor Swift, and The War on Drugs will provide the soundtracks, respectively.

  12. #CphMarathon in T minus ... approximately one hour. This is it.

Today, I will do my first full marathon. 42.195k through Copenhagen. The weather is good, the course flat and forthcoming.

I am humble, nervous, excited, and ready.

My goal: to cross the starting line
My hope: to enjoy the race
My pipe dream: to finish in 4:15:00 or less

    Here we go.

  14. #CphMarathon in T minus two days (and 15 hours).

This may have been the last run before the big one, but I hope to be able to do a very short run on Saturday.

  15. CW: #running & a deathbed

#CphMarathon in T minus seven days.

This was the last long run before the marathon.

On a quite personal note: it was also the weirdest run. In the middle of it all, at 10k, my father called to say my grand-mother lays dying. She has been ill for a long time, but now is the time. She is old, and it is no tragedy. The last 6k were a blur, run faster than ever, quite emotional.

We are on the homestretch. Take care out there.

  16. #CphMarathon in T minus 21 days. Fired up, ready to go!

Two weeks ago, I felt like dying at 30k. Then @folfdk kindly yet firmly told me off for not getting food and fluids on the run. He was right.

So today, mother-in-law had pear and water ready by 10k, sister-in-law had banana and water ready by 25k, and I had pocket full of raisins and dried abricots. Results: still a very hard run, but SO much better than the last one.

    Thank you, Folmer!

  17. #CphMarathon in T minus 24 days.

As you set your eyes to the wind
And you see me pull away again
Haven't lost it all, my friend
Just a bit run down here at the moment

  18. #CphMarathon in T minus 27 days.

    Today: 26.2k (+ a bit) dress rehersal with @coachbennett.

All is good, but the closer I get to it, the more monumental and challenging the full marathon appears to me.

  19. #CphMarathon in T minus 35 days.

Ran from Copenhagen Central and (almost all the way) home. 30k. Shit just got real, and I am toast. This was hard!
