  1. I wouldn't rely on a Hipkins-led govt to wipe it's own arse, let alone clean up corruption. In the unlikely event they do put some decent anti-corruption legislation in place - maybe the support parties make it a bottom line - the next government the corporatists manage to buy will just repeal it all.

We need #ConstitutionalReform that can bind Parliament permanently, and can only be undone by calling another constitutional assembly, or via a binding referendum.

  2. > Reforms that would break the supermajority right-wing Court’s grip on the country — its operating as a legislative veto for Democratic administrations and a hall pass for Republican ones — would go far beyond docket management and ethics reforms, though. Term limits, court packing, jurisdiction stripping — the ideas lighting up the intellectual left and spreading to Democratic officials would overhaul the Court as we know it.

  3. I love Heather Cox Richardson, and Andy Borowitz, and here they are together, for the first time.

Andy Borowitz interviews Heather Cox Richardson about what she sees happening with the Trump administration, SCOTUS, voting rights, the Electoral College, the Constitution, and democracy in the United States, in 2026 as we barrel toward midterm elections. Professor Richardson explains her thoughts through the lens of American history.

  4. The average lifespan of a national constitution worldwide is just 17 years. Ours has lasted 235 years without major updates. That's remarkable endurance, but also shows why modernization matters. We can honor the founders' genius while adapting their framework for today's challenges. the1776.org #ConstitutionalReform #Civics #Democracy

  5. America needs citizens who believe in the power of the people to shape our future. The 1776 is forming a National Advisory Panel to help guide a transparent, nonpartisan process for constitutional modernization. Your voice matters in this historic effort. 6. Maybe kiwis need to accept that the NZ government is just fucked, give up on it, and work with whānau, hapū and iwi to reconstitute the country's governance arrangements from scratch? Stop buying into the badly cloned version of the British government that claims total sovereignty here.

My reading of Te Tiriti in the context of He Whakaputanga is that it formally recognises Ngāti Pākeha as an iwi. Maybe we need to start acting like one?

  7. Thailand has joined the UN Human Rights Council. As a member, Thailand must uphold high standards and fulfil its pledges. A new constitution is essential to protect our right to protest and ensure democracy #ConstitutionalReform.

The repression of protesters must be stopped. See what Vitthaya has to say: youtube.com/watch?v=B8MVm3KEgf

  9. “The Lords may be quaint and historic, but it is constitutionally indefensible. It is one of only two parliaments in the world, along with Lesotho, to have hereditary members: there are 92 sitting by inherited right, 26 as leaders of a religious sect and dozens who have paid large sums to be members, often just for the title.”

Executive power has become so uncontrolled that it fosters venality, mendacity and corruption. To constrain this increasingly presidential-syle but unchecked government, we need to change things | Frances Crook
