I'm trying to compare (16-bit 48kHz) source audio to audio compressed down to 8-bit 8kHz linear and a-law companded audio, and I can barely tell the difference, other than some clarity.
I'm guessing my sound card and/or Linux is doing some crazy interpolation, but it kind of ruined that part of my project. 🤣
