We setup my camera on one of the Buffalo Astronomical Association's telescopes during the Buffalo Audubon's Trick-or-Treat Hike event on 10//19/2024 to capture comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas). Here’s my process of the data. 112 subs at 15 sec each for 28 minutes of total exposure. More Comet hunting tonight. The skies were clear, so we drove 60km west, over Mt Glorious and down to the back end of Lake Wivenhoe.
This time, I shot not only with the 200mm f/1.8 lens, but also with my 15mm f/2.8 fisheye for a more environmental shot.
Venus was the brightest thing in the sky, as the moon was well and truly set, but even out here we had some glow on the horizon from the township of Esk (probably).

I took my (not-broken) DSLR out to the park this time, and got some OK pictures of comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. First light for me for a Yashica 135 mm f/2.8 manual lens I got at the camera store closing sale last year. This is the first time I've noticed the satellites really buzzing around in my photos. This is a 3 second shot; everything longer than that had noticeable star trails.
I also recreated last night's shot over the river with my phone, but the comet was much dimmer tonight. I was able to use a tripod to get a 30 second exposure. (Night mode, though, so it's a composite. I tried a 30s exposure on Pro mode but it was less defined and everything was blurry. So, yay computers this time?)

I’d been hoping to get out to see the #comet sometime this week. Tonight was going to be my last chance to see it from anywhere other that the well lit workplace. So! I almost forgot after sundown, but remembered just in time. These pics were taken using my cellphone with a 3 second exposure (I haven’t downloaded an app yet to get longer exposures from my iPhone 12 Pro.) #CometC2023A3 #CometTsuchinshanATLAS #KE0FFT

My best shots of Comet C/2023 A3 from tonight. Met a bunch of Comet People at Danehy Park as we all waited for it to become visible. Could see with naked eye, but phone definitely makes it pop. Some clouds came in which blocked for a while, it eventually got too hard to see as the full moon rose in the sky. #cambridgema #cometc2023a3 #comet #astronomy

Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS imaged through thin cloud earlier this evening (Monday, 14th October).
A single 5-second exposure taken from Holyhead, Wales, with a telephoto lens set to 140mm focal length and f/5.0.

Went to the park with my DSLR and tripod to try to get some photos of Comet C/2023 A3. Unfortunately there was a perfect comet sized cloud hanging in the right spot (in an otherwise completely clear sky!) so I got some great shots of Venus and a cloud. whomp whomp. Will try again when it's clear. #CometC2023A3
