That explains a lot about why Haiti is where it is now. I wish this was taught in the US as part of World History. Maybe if people here knew, people would force the US Gov to help Haiti out decades ago.

It is this division which opens the breach, and the ruling classes will continue to fight with each other, just so long as they do not fear the mass seizure of power.'
It would be nice to think this was from a UK newspaper editorial about the latest activities of Sunak, Truss, Farage, the National Conservatives et al. But actually it's from CLR James's The Black Jacobins of 1938, a book about the revolution in Haiti in 1791.

He authored the 1937 work "World Revolution" about the history of the Communist International, as well as “The Black Jacobins” which covered the Haitian Revolution.

Really liked this podcast episode with Culture as Code. https://a16z.simplecast.com/episodes/culture-as-code-rerun-eL9hlgGW really liked how Ben Horowitz talked about Haiti's revolution & Toussaint Louverture's leadership. I first read about it in C.L.R. James's The Black Jacobins. More recently in the Revolutions podcast. It is not often that you hear business leaders talking about his leadership though.
