I finally started making a cloak, something I've wanted to do for a long time, but autistic inertia slows me down. So far it's turning out really well. I need to hem it, dye it, add a clasp, then decide if I want to add embellishments or leave it plain.
I'm not going for historical accuracy, but am inspired by simple historical techniques. My goal has been to have a functional cloak, not just a costume one. This is my first prototype, I found some old curtains at the thrift store that are made from cotton and linen––having natural fiber was important to me. Once I get more adept, I'm looking toward finding some good quality wool for better weatherproofed cloak. This current cloak will mostly be a summer one, I think.
I am undecided on if I want to attach a hood or not, the climate out here in the pacific northwest makes me feel like I should. I will eventually be making a detached medieval style hood though, as those are my favorite, and I just want one.
