It's October, which means it's almost #Thanksgiving here in #Canada. [1]

One of the traditional meals at Thanksgiving here is turkey. And I thought of that because I roasted a chicken this week. More specifically, I thought about how magical it is that many #chefs and #cooks and plain old folx can carve a #chicken or #turkey and have it come out as beautiful, even slices of white #meat, and lovely whole #drumsticks or wings, or what-have-you.

Because when I carve a bird, it looks like I did it with a #chainsaw. Or possibly a #lawnmower.

[1] Yes, it's ~6 weeks earlier than USA Thanksgiving. For much of Canada, the only harvest we could be grateful for in #November is #snow.

That night,
I carved strange symbols
Into my skin,
The asymmetry of my mind
Becoming strangely
Geometrically ordered shapes
On my forearms,
The only part of my body I ever
Admired.

The pen didn’t run, and the
Messages I dripped

The 🎄break I’ve envisioned has yet to fully materialize, but I’m getting there. Submitted a doozy first proof on a poetry collection to its author yesterday, working on two book covers, awaiting corrections from another poet, and reviewing printer proofs this morning.

Mostly I need to use the off days to clean up the #collage explosion in my studio and do some rearranging and organizing in there, including getting another shelving unit put together. But I’m really itching to #carve some #lino.
