  1. Two nights at Crab Lake with 3 year old and grandma.

Greeted with buckets of rain at the Wolf Lake put in that passed in 20 min. A few black flies.

Nice easy paddle to the portage where we were devoured by mosquitoes. Made our way through as fast as we could.

First trip with the new to me Kevlar canoe. A 42 lbs boat is a revelation.

A day spent swimming, hiking the lookout, and exploring the lake. No camp fire because I didn’t want to brave the bugs for firewood.

Good weather overnight has us sleeping with the fly off the tent and gazing at the stars.

All in all, enjoyable trip but I better understand why people avoid the bugs in June.

  2. Bottle Lake May 1st to 3rd Trip report.

Ice was out but still COLD!

Took it slow and kept close to shore as my brother is not the most comfortable in a canoe and neither of us wanted an upset.

Got to a beautiful campsite and posted up. Some winter campers had left a snow stake and some bucked firewood. Still wet but saved much work!

The wind was cold and there was snow at times. Wore most of my clothing to bed each night!

The trade off to the cold? No flying bugs! My brother did get a tick, and we used a tick key to get it out. TIL that ticks are active above 2c and since there were no flying bugs, we didn't bug spray up for a hike up to the lookout.

All in all, good first 2 night trip of the season and looking forward to more!
