  32. @FaithfullJohn @MineralCup wow, you’ve tipped me to vote for #cacoxenite now by the story. The salt was just not significant enough to do it but a fine deep yellow gold crystal is impressive. I was sure it must be close to an orpiment but not poisonous. And it’s less likely to weather to powder.

I was visiting German relatives, and persuaded them to take me to the Hagendorf pegmatite quarries in Bavaria. Using a plastic pocket microscope, I spotted the wee spheres of gorgeous golden needles on a specimen, and then somehow identified them using this fabulous book . This was probably the high point of my mineral identifying career😁
