I want you to learn about an amazing project in Lebanon, called Buzuruna Juzuruna. The project was initiated together with Syrian refugees that had to learn the lesson that food sovereignty is not an option, but a necessity.

The article is from 2024, during the last war, when Buzuruna Juzuruna used their stored grains and legumes to support solidarity kitchens that were feeding the refugees.
Now in 2026, they are doing the same thing again. But last year they could do so much more. Seedbanks. Food processing. Farmer Field Schools. Agroecological farming techniques. Alphabetization. Culture. Art.

"Buzuruna Juzuruna: a haven of solidarity in times of war"
"Buzuruna Juzuruna is Lebanon’s most famous agro-ecological farm, located in Saadnayel, in the Bekaa valley – Lebanon’s breadbasket.
Rows of fruits and vegetables grow around an orange and yellow circus tent, while goats bleat nearby.
Here, twenty Syrians, Lebanese and French members work together to produce organic, local produce in short circuits: a revolutionary concept in a country dominated by agro-industrial practices. Here, twenty Syrians, Lebanese and French members work together to produce organic, local produce in short circuits: a revolutionary concept in a country dominated by agro-industrial practices.
Over their eight years of experience, they even assembled an extensive “seed library”, as they call it. “We have 250 heirloom seed types, and enough to cover all of Lebanon”
“The idea behind our farm has always been self-sufficiency and food sovereignty in the event of a disaster: we’ve been working hard for eight years to get there”

Currently, Buzuruna Juzuruna give lentils to solidarity kitchens and hand out seed packages to farmers displaced by the war, so that they can continue to produce food as soon as they arrive somewhere in the northern regions.
PD: folks from Bristol (UK): you might want to check out shorkk, a cool online food shop.
