  1. For the first time since my #BurgerDisk kickstarter, I have zero package in transit !
I have sent about 75 packages, about all over the world and mostly to the USA. I had one issue with one of them that went to Australia, on the wrong side of Australia, and back to me. Another one that didn't pass US customs and took 7 days to clear. But even with these two hiccups, everyone got their thing!

  3. BurgerDisk/DominoDisk firmware v2.6 is available, adding support for DOS3.3-ordered .dsk images. (of ProDOS volumes, of course). No need to rewrite .dsk images to .po images anymore, but this comes with a performance penalty as DOS3.3-ordered images require to "cut" ProDOS blocks in two sectors, seek twice, and read/write twice.

All devices on my shop at colino.net/wordpress/shop/ now ship with that firmware.

  5. My web shop is open with BurgerDisk and DominoDisk in stock: Apple II SD-based Smartport hard drives that don't make you choose between modern storage and floppy drives.

  7. Now that I am not worried about having enough connectors for my #BurgerDisk device, I am instead worried that everybody who wanted one got theirs, and nobody else likes it, and one day, I'll die and be inhumated with my 300 unused connectors 🤡
I love my brain sometimes. /s

  9. Second, the electronics stores are much less greedy than eBay sellers, and were selling their 20-years-old stock at a normal price for a stupid connector instead of 10-20€, so I can now drop 10€ of the price of the #BurgerDisk and #DominoDisk !

(The shop is there and it's live! colino.net/wordpress/shop/ )

  11. With the extraordinary help of @alexeystar in Serbia and @kf in Estonia, I have managed to find about 300 female connectors in total for the #BurgerDisk / #DominoDisk. These devices are very international, with the PCB from China, male connectors from USA, and female connectors from *checks notes* Serbia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithunia, North Macedonia and Germany.
This should be more than enough so that everyone with an Apple II and a need for a daisy-chainable hard drive can have one!

  13. #BurgerDisk news:
A new option for the BurgerDisk, two new devices, partnering with @MuseumJoe, and sourcing unobtainium connectors thanks to very kind people from the Fediverse.

  19. The upgraded microsd modules are very satisfying. Now you don't need nails or spoons to insert or eject them!

  21. News about #BurgerDisk: The Kickstarter is over! I am rather overwhelmed by the level of support. I didn't expect that.
Luckily I've been soldering things in advance so I now have not much more to do than to finish assembly and test each unit.

  23. There are 99 solder points per #BurgerDisk PCB, plus 39 per adapter.
This evening I did 350. I must limit myself to avoid back pain 🧓

  25. Excuse the mess! :D

    I'm beta testing a #burgerdisk by @colin_mcmillen on my Delta #apple2e clone.
It's wired to a SmartDisk][ card, and so far it's been working great. I could even daisychain it to a #FloppyEmu!

  27. I received black filament and 3d printed a black #BurgerDisk enclosure. The imperfections of printing are more visible than on white boxes, but I think it still does look good?

  31. I have started soldering and assembling some #BurgerDisk units for the kickstarter... But I've run out of Arduinos and will soon be out of PCBs, and MicroSD modules. I'll have to wait for the postman to continue!

  33. Back to assembly now, I've (barely) started on a #BurgerDisk utility that would allow manipulating volumes from the host - format volumes, change volumes' image, etc.
For now it's only able to enumerate Smartport units.

  35. #BurgerDisk v2 PCB, much cleaner and made from a schematic, is validated 🥳 I took the opportunity to make a better enclosure mount too, and it is also validated!

  37. I'm interested of people's opinion on the Micro vs full-size SD card after reading the article (especially the opinion of people who would be interested by the device).

  39. I've been thinking about the best way to make an enclosure that would fit every possible version of the #BurgerDisk. I'm starting to be happy with the results!

  41. #Kicad question I can't figure out by myself. I'm trying BOM/CPL file generation to automate #BurgerDisk assembly, with some positive results.
One thing I can't figure out: how can I tell via BOM/CPL files that I want two 1x15 female headers in the Arduino footprint?

  43. Teaser: the v2 enclosure will come with an indentation so that one will be able to stick a little 🏳️‍🌈 Apple logo!

  45. I've released #BurgerDisk v1.1. The PCB, enclosure and firmware are updated.
The main difference is that the new PCB is able to withstand being plugged into an old DiskII controller without frying and without a configuration jumper.
The second difference is that the microSD slot is now in the front of the enclosure.

I expect to release v2.0 quite soon, with a functionally identical PCB, redesigned with Kicad. It will come with another enclosure update, allowing for a sturdier mount.

The v1.1 firmware is compatible with the v1.0 PCB and vice versa.

  47. Update on the #BurgerDisk SD slot. Having the slot at the back was impractical. Plus, it made us solder the microSD module to the PCB.
