From Buncombe County Government on FB: A new Disaster Recovery Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now open at Cane Creek Pool at 590 Lower Bush Creek Road in Fairview. This location is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A mobile disaster recovery center is at the Buncombe County Sports Park at 58 Apac Drive in Asheville open through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A Disaster Recovery Center is a readily accessible facility or mobile office where applicants may go for information about disaster assistance programs. It serves as the "face" of FEMA to many disaster survivors.

If you were impacted by Hurricane Helene, you can apply for a one-time benefit to help buy food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) through October 24, 2024.
Call: D-SNAP Virtual Call Center at 1-844-453-1117 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday.
In-person: Buncombe County Health and Human Services at 40 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC, 28801. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
While people are encouraged to apply in their county of residence, they can apply in any of the eligible counties.

In Asheville, trash collection is beginning today and will start with regular Monday and Tuesday collections where accessible. Residents are encouraged to download the AVL Collects app to your phone to receive notifications about trash and recycling pickup in their area. There will be no recycling pick up until the recycling plant is operational. Residents can use both recycling and trash bins for household waste.
