I haven't seen a popular instance for fun-bot accounts since the departure of bots.in.space. Anyone seen a site that caters to that sort of activity? #askFedi
I'm not talking malicious or insidious bots, but rather fun bots that add value to #masto, like @samuelpepys, @_random_cafe etc..
Many instances will allow non-malicious bots, so perhaps I need to just choose a reliable instance and use that.
I have a few fun bots that have been idle since #botsInSpace left the building.

Nice to see that @emoji__polls has found a new home before the Botsin.space shutdown! (I think the creator is self hosting the server too!)
(Apparently they've been there since November and I only just noticed aaugh) Emoji polls was the main bot I was worried about when learning of the shutdown, but hopefully other bots get relocated to good servers too! ❤️

Looks like https://botsin.space is officially read only. There's plenty of options for moving your bot though!
- You can self host Mastodon, GoToSocial (recommended), or the various other options. The more complex, but better long term option.
- You can use something like what @Edent has put together, a simple PHP script that allows you to post to the fediverse https://gitlab.com/edent/activity-bot/
- Ask your own instance's admin whether you can use the instance you're already on. Getting permission is important - bots can have wildly different requirements than a typical user!
- Help support Floofy.tech's infrastructure with a small subscription to https://botsinbox.net/. £1/month/bot, which can be waived depending on your financial situation.
- Other bot-specific instances have cropped up! If you run one, feel free to leave it as a reply :)

Oh! Apparently I don't follow anyone on #BotsInSpace anymore! That means all the bots I did follow (there were several) have found their way to another home in time for the beginning of the instance's shutdown, neat :comfyblobcat:
I'm sad it has to close its doors (but I fully understand the reasons), and I'd like to see the wonderful thing here: that this community is built on so many pillars that it'll keep going even if one of the bigger ones breaks away.
May the bots keep tooting on for a long, long time!

And related to your question, answering it as a user, while my bots were running on the #BotsInSpace server, I did set their posts to autodelete after 2 weeks.
And we now know that running that server became too expensive, in big part due to storage requirements.

Weil botsin.space geschlossen wird und Reporter ohne Grenzen leider immer noch nicht den Weg ins Fediverse gefunden hat, mussten wir eine neue Mastodon-Instanz für den RoG-Feed-Bot suchen.
Zunkünftig werden wir unter @[email protected] tröten.
Vielen Dank an @muffinista , dass wir botsin.space nutzen konnten.
