New version of free ebook "Quantitative Concepts for Biologists"

I have added chapter 10 on common statistics problems, "inspired" by several scientific manuscripts that I have received recently. It is frustrating to see how biologists, after having spent years with expensive experimental research, misinterpret their own work. The new chapter is subjective and incomplete (the topic is inexhaustible), but I hope many budding and mature biologists will still find it useful.

Currently I learn more and more about #biostatistics and today I learned about the delta method.

I always wondered why certain data transformations, i.e. taking the log, makes downstream analysis “prettier”. It always felt so random and “illegal”. Turns out, it has to do with #heteroscedasticity (say that 3times fast); the standard deviation is different in different regions of the data space. Certain transformations can circumvent this “problem”, and can be identified via the delta method
