Roberts seems determined to join Alito and Thomas alongside #AgolfShitler, #WhiskeyPete, and #PeeWeeGerman (together with our #AmericanOligarchs from the #BillionairesInsurgency, like Peter Thiel and #ApartheidClyde) in the rogues' gallery that needs to be tried and executed for treason if American democracy survives their fascist onslaught....

@mike805 Fair points. They didnt make stuff up out of whole cloth; they found existing fracture lines and drove wedges into them. That said, their efforts on the right during the Cold War were basically just marginal extremists--just as the FSB's efforts on the left today are. Their main effort just switched sides.
And that was kind of the point I was making (and why i talked in terms of the social order) about the demise of the Soviet system there. Yes, the siloviki still came out on top--but the social order OF SOVIET COMMUNISM perished, and a new one of Russian Nationalist MAFIA CAPITALISM rose in its place. #VladTheInvader is most accurately though of not as a new Soviet Premier under a different title, but rather as their Oligarch-in-Chief--and coordinator of a global #BillionairesInsurgency...which, while it is clearly MODELED ON the old Communist International (COMINTERN) is also just as clearly a different beast.

I need to periodically acknowledge to dilemma lurking behind my (only partially) facetious use of the #WhatWouldRobespierreDo hashtag: YES, I absolutely believe we are witnessing the "long train of abuses and usurpations" that "evinces a design to reduce [We, the People'] under absolute despotism," of which America's founders spoke in our Declaration of Independence--which ultimately had to be resolved through political violence against a tyrannical government. And yes, this modern instance is being driven by our #AmericanOligarchs, as part of a #BillionairesInsurgency that aims to render all government & religious authority ACCOUNTABLE TO THEM, instead of the other way around: a combination that truly does evoke [the better parts of] the legacy of Robespierre in response.
But--as others were pointing out yesterday--our contemplation of the role which force may at some point have to play in the preservation of our liberty must also be balanced by the understanding that--being violent people steeped in fantasies that we were intent on doing the same TO THEM under Obama or Biden-- #AgolfShitler and his #Sturmtrumpers are SALIVATING AT the prospect of organized political violence that would allow them at least A FIG LEAF of justification to invoke the Insurrection Act. If popular force does ultimately prove necessary, it must either be timed in support of some other action (like the military executing its oath "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC") that would render the Insurrection Act moot, or triggered by regime action that makes it clear we're going to face that level of state violence anyhow, WHETHER OR NOT we fight back.
In the meantime, we're better off denying them the excuse they seek, and finding other, more creative ways to fight back....
