BeetBear and I keep a close watch on the corn patch every day. Every one of those ears is precious. We're nearing the end of the corn season, but there are still some good eats to be had for a few days yet,

The rain let up for a while this afternoon, so we were able to get down to pick raspberries and corn for dinner. We're now in to the third planting and have topped the 200 mark for ears eaten this season. More coming!

I know the difference is subtle, but here's an example of corn at it's best (for me) and corn a day or two past it's best. The red arrow points to an ear that would have been much more tender two days ago. The blue arrow points to an ear in it's prime for eating off the cob right now. My opinion, of course.

Went through and gleaned what I could from the garden this AM because there's a storm coming and I probably won't be able to get out there tomorrow. Again, we shared out what we didn't need today. Also our cornfest continues and we are nearly finished with the second planting. Looking forward to starting the third planting soon. 😀 🌽

Simmered down the sauce until it was about reduced by half and then into pint jars. Set up the canning pot on my outdoor burner and gave them a 20 minute bath in boiling water, a little cool down to make sure tops all "popped" and then in to the kitchen for BeetBear to inspect. Just a little over 5 pints. Not done a taste-test yet.

Had errands to run this AM, so no regular harvesting today. HOWEVER cornfest must go on, so here's dinner. The second planting is now getting a bit chewy, but still mighty fine. Third planting almost ready! Onward!😀 🌽

It's getting hard to keep up with the tomatoes right now, so we had another tote-full to share. Also what's probably the last of the yellow squash & zucchini. The onions are curing nicely, too. We're pretty well in to the 2nd corn planting now & the ears are more mature than I'd prefer, but still plenty tasty. My 20-yr-old self would have been able to have finished off the whole 2nd planting by now, but that was a loooong time ago.😀 🌽

BeetBear and I spent some time this afternoon picking more raspberries to have with dinner tonight. He's good at getting in to the ones I can't quite reach. Also had our 12th cornfest meal with another 10 nice ears of the Flagler.😀 🌽

Heat index just hit 109F / ~42C again this afternoon, so it's too hot to got out and pick more tomatoes. Grabbed a big load this morning, but they're coming in faster than we can harvest. BeetBear is asking for a bigger wheelbarrow. ALSO we are now officially no longer in drought conditions.

We DID pick a few other things today to put out for the neighbors, but mostly worked on getting the onions out on the drying rack, which is really just a ladder and some bamboo canes on horses in the garage. This was our best onion harvest in a long time. Didn't count or weigh anything but they're mostly huge. 😀 🧅

Almost forgot yesterday's cornfest picture. Another nice meal and we've topped the 100 mark. This concludes the harvest from the first planting and there will now be a short interval until the second planting is ready. (AND it's teeming down with rain here again this morning; so far 2 inches (50mm) in two hours... 😀 🌽

Usually by now, we have our onions all harvested and hung up to dry, but it's been so wet in July that the onions (Ailsa Craig) just kept growing and only just now have begun to flop over. More rain coming tonight and tomorrow, but after that we've got to get these pulled and drying. BeetBear says he's going to need a bigger wheelbarrow! 😀 🧅

Been having rain showers off and on for the last two days so it's been difficult to get out and do any harvesting. This is what we managed this morning. We'll do more corn this afternoon. Daughter coming to visit for the weekend so the cornfest will really expand then. 😀 🌽

A little over two inches (51mm) of rain since midnight. At least it's not windy. BeetBear is not sure if he will be able to get out and pick sweetcorn today, but it's early yet so we'll see....

Did a lot of picking mid-day today to try and get ahead before the storms roll in again. There were also green beans and cherry tomatoes set out for the neighbors that didn't make the photo.
