#GreatDivideBrewing out of Colorado first introduced Yeti Imperial Stout in 2004, and since then the #beer has become a year-round staple for the brewery. It’s one I’ve enjoyed a number of times over the years, yet in all that time I’ve never reviewed it here.

In this day and age it’s quite mainstream for beer to come in cans (it’s not the novelty it once was), but when #DoubleMountainBrewery recently revealed that it’s (finally) canning its #beer and #cider, it warrants a closer look. The brewery famously resisted canning for a long time, focusing on its refillable bottle program in its sustainability efforts, and finally took the plunge this year.

Flock Party is the newest year-round IPA from #PelicanBrewing, billed as a “modern IPA” by the brewery, designed as an approachable and sessionable IPA to share with friends (your “flock” as it were). This new #beer is brewed with Bravo, Centennial, and Strata hops with a simple malt bill to highlight the hops. Here's my review.

Washington’s #BaleBreakerBrewing refreshed the recipe for its Field 41 Pale Ale this year, re-imagining the #beer as a lighter, crisper, easier-drinking version of the original. The new recipe dropped the alcohol from 5.2 to 4.2% by volume, as well as the calories (now 100 per 12-ounce serving). The brewery is calling the new recipe Yakima Pale Ale.

#FirestoneWalkerBrewing offers up several different variety packs of its various #beer lines, with the eponymously-named Firestone Mixed Pack perhaps serving as the flagship pack, featuring four of its year-round hoppy ales. Seattle-based #ThorntailHardAgave makes #HardSeltzer from a base of fermented Blue Weber agave (the same agave from which tequila is made), offering a unique angle on the seltzer formula. The company offers five flavors, made with real fruit, with the newest launching its Social Justice Series—Spicy Mango Uprising.

I do quite enjoy a Belgian-style white ale (#witbier) during summer, with the coriander and orange spice profile over a bright, crisp wheat which just hits right in hot weather. So I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to review Nit Wit White Ale from BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, which I received from the company recently.

Two of the early new releases this year from #PublicCoastBrewing were darker beers suited for the winter months: stRanger Tides, a chocolate cherry stout, and Dunkel Dreams, a lager brewed with chai spiced tea. Both of these were collaboration beers with Portland companies #RangerChocolate and #SmithTeamaker, respectively, and I received cans of each to review.

#NonAlcoholicBeer drinkers take note: Oregon has an exclusively #NonAlcoholic brewing company in Portland’s #RoamingNoblesBrewing, founded by Marla and Liam Hoban in 2021, the state’s first such company. Roaming Nobles has three core brands, IPA, Pils, and Tropical Pils, all less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, and at the end of December introduced its new West Coast Pils.

My latest article for the local paper talks about #Kernza, a newish, processed grain derived from a perennial intermediate wheatgrass, and its use in brewing — specifically, in two new beers from #DeschutesBrewery, Kernza Lager and #NonAlcoholic Kernza Golden Brew. For the article I focused on the non-alcoholic brew, the first certified organic NA #beer in the country.
