If you can't see the complete #eclipse today, I can reassure you that the photos of the #sun arriving in my TL look just like round #pancakes.
Here’s my suggestion for young and old alike: make two pancakes. Spread dark jam on the slightly smaller one. Drag it extremely slowly over the larger one. Then use your mouth to create a Black Hole! Slurp the sun, the moon ... Cosmic experience guaranteed! 😋🤭If you can't bake, an alternative: https://social.bund.de/@dlr_next/117070522050795693

I do love the thrill of writing an observing proposal well into the night, but maybe next deadline I should aim to finish before 1 AM...
Life of a scientist, y'all!

I've been working with a colleague on a paper on a very weird object. No details on here until it's accepted, but it's now submitted! #AstrodonChatter

Just about done writing this 6 page paper, and I see it's now ... 17 pages. Huh. Not sure how that one happened. #AcademicChatter #AstrodonChatter

#toxic as a description for #workplaces is a useful term: there is a daily dose of anti-social behaviour beyond a person's threshold. So the there are three paths forward: 1) reduce the negative dose by increasing positive behaviour (compliments, positivity) and 2) reducing the unwanted behaviour *and* 3) increase the person's resilience / tolerance level so they can cope with a wider range of people. #AcademicChatter #astrodonchatter

#toxic as a description for #workplaces is so useless: it gives no tangible thing to improve and no gradient to measure improvement over time. Once toxic, those coworkers are contaminated and beyond redemption? #AcademicChatter #astrodonchatter

Hot take: the arXiv needs to realize it isn't 1997 anymore and ban joke papers on April 1. #Astrodon #AstrodonChatter

Good: One cannot "lose an hour of sleep" if one is deep in the muck of submitting observing proposals.
Bad: One can lose "an hour of working on proposals."

Non-Yanks are keen to complain about temperatures in Fahrenheit, but, being an astronomer, I just can't cotton to those arguments. I've used so many weird temperature units in my life that "But water freezes at 32?" doesn't really rate for me. #AstronomyChatter #AstrodonChatter

As someone neck-deep in planning for #AAS244, I'd like to make my annual appeal to other astronomers to stop calling it the "Super Bowl of Astronomy."
It's a flawed analogy for a number of reasons (chief of which: this isn't a competition!), but there are also so many better analogies already out there! If anything, it's the ComicCon of Astronomy!

Perks of working at the #CenterForAstro: the view.
(Downsides: Boston's wicked hot right now)

Grad students: please, for the love of all things, make it so if I google "Your Name Astronomy Your University" I can find YOUR email. Please don't make me email your advisor. No one likes that.
