  1. In the name of practice of communicating design concepts more clearly to the wider public, I have redone the graphical part of the explanation of what (in my eyes) is wrong with the new Safari compass (27 beta). Hope this is much clearer.

Please, Apple, can we change it to different solution! 🙏

  2. And the Black & White mode of App Designer icon.

a.k.a. “Clear-Dark with Reduce Transparency ON in accessibility settings” icon mode.

Basically the only one from the tints I personally do not mind looking at.

If Apple would ever take time to fix up everything in the Graphite UI mode, that would be a good reason for the existence of B&W icons actually.

  3. Safari app icon update is 👎 IMO.

    A. The asymmetry alone is unpleasant when looked at small sizes (like in Dock).

    B. The rounding of the red half of the needle makes it look like a watch hand. Here is the helper, so you can not unsee it:

(⚠️ EDIT: Should have made explanation clearer for not designer types. Left: the current update, Right: what the shape language is telling can happen to the object.)

  4. How cool is it that Xcode’s hammer did survive the glass-ification and still represents 3D-realistic-tools app icon genre?

As a representative of the same style, and not accidentally featuring the Xcode-blue coloring, the App Designer’s icon gels very nicely with it, as two best friends. 🙂

    Long live the 🔨!

  5. New Mac app icon design.

NO to glass, YES to tradition of tools.

Hopefully speaks enough of “some design tooling” without additional comments.

But yea, currently thinking this will be my next priority No.1 project where my indie time goes.

Could not find any better name that would stick, and it was brewing for a while already, so a generic “App Designer” it is. Reserved a handle @AppDesigner_app for it.

  6. @duncandesi9n Nice rendering!

Although the shape feels like it is too entrenched as our bright sun, so it has some strange tension being colored as a distant star in these galaxy colors. Cute and cold opposition? Is that it? Maybe I’m too influenced by seeing these examples recently by Raphael Lopes and Marc Edwards:

  7. There are some shifts in how app icon crazy modes look in terms of contrast on OS 27 (obviously still beta). But still far from being acceptable. Overall score increased by ~1 emoji point so far to my eye. Progress nonetheless.
