"High Above Nowhere"
For #MountainMonday I have this photo from one of my desert hikes in January this year, looking back south from the approach to Pyramid Peak in the Santa Rosa Mountains, which mark the boundary between San Diego County and Riverside County to the north. The San Diego side is part of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Didn't see a single person all day (which is the best part about many desert hikes😉).

Baileya pauciradiata (Colorado Desert Marigold, Laxflower) which I photographed in near Borrego Springs in March 2024.
My endless backlog of plant photos currently consists of ~900 photos with identified species that "just" need keywords, titles, captions, alt-text. And then many more with photos that are in a worse state (need culling, identification, editing). Good thing it's hot and the weather isn't interesting either right now... 🥴

I was out in the Anza-Borrego desert around Hawi Vallecitoa while back and came across some potsherds. Not at all unusual in a land that's been home and hearth for thousands of years. This one was a bit different. If you look carefully, you can see the maker's thumb print. Holding it, feeling the touch of a long-dead fellow was a moving experience.
I left it where it belonged.
