  1. @fabio Also due to these regulations I cannot buy antibiotic ointment when the Czech regime is depriving me of healthcare when I have an infected eczema and am afraid it will produce sepsis and I die, because antibiotic ointment ran out and when I call a dermatologist and tell I need it urgently she gives me an appointment 4 months (!!!) in the future!

In a corrupt developing 3rd world dictatorship Cambodia it is possible to buy antibiotic ointments without prescription and also dermatologist wait there is only 7-10 days, not 4 months.

    I feel

New #antibiotic for multidrug resistant #superbug
Researchers from the universities in Konstanz and Vienna discover a new class of antibiotic that selectively targets Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium that causes #gonorrhoea.

  4. Last night on #ABC730, there was a short story on #antibiotic use on factory farmed animals such as #pigs and #chickens in #Australia. I suggest people watch the 5 minute segment here:
    abc.net.au/news/2023-04-19/the

This is the blurb of the segment:

"For almost a century, antibiotics have been used around the world to treat bacterial infection, but scientists warn that over-use could raise the risk of antibiotic-resistant superbugs.

The World Health Organization has listed the problem as one of the top ten global health threats facing humanity. New research has found antibiotic resistance in samples of meat taken from supermarket shelves. Jason Om reports."

Some brief thoughts on the story:

-I have to laugh at the 'ethical butcher' nomenclature, as it reminded me of 'humane slaughter'. #oxymoron
-It should be pointed out, because it wasn't directly stated in the news story, due perhaps to time constraints, but there is a reason that antibiotic use is so high and prevalent (60% of antibiotics used in Australia are for agriculture use - what a shocking amount!). And that is because animals, who are #sentient, conscious, and intelligent, are stuck in horrid conditions, surrounded by their own shit. 💩

Thank you to #abcAustralia for showing the report that was commissioned by #AnimalsAustralia. I hope it leads to more people choosing a kinder, nicer, way of life. 🌱

  5. #MedicineMonday is going to be me venting a bit. We were catching up with a family friend complaining about the number of kidney infections she’s had.

I dig deeper and find out
1️⃣ She keeps getting UTIs but stops taking her #antibiotic after 2-3 doses
2️⃣ She uses the remaining antibiotic anytime she feels under the weather.

Remember to always finish the full course of antibiotics for bacterial infections and that antibiotics won’t work for viruses/allergies!

  6. Today’s #MedicineMonday is brought to you by amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. I’m both grateful we got some (baby has an ear infection) but also have been up since 4:30am due to its side effects 😅

    This medication has two components:
💊 #Amoxicillin: β-lactam #antibiotic (interferes with bacterial cell walls by inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis)
💊Potassium #clavulanate: β-lactamase inhibitor (prevents breakdown of amoxicillin, so it can stick around and do its job longer, and you need less of it!)
