  1. The vaginal microbiome may be an overlooked reservoir of antibiotic resistance

Researchers mapped nearly 2,000 vaginal metagenomes to investigate how microbial community states, resistance genes, and pregnancy outcomes inter…

  2. @fabio Also due to these regulations I cannot buy antibiotic ointment when the Czech regime is depriving me of healthcare when I have an infected eczema and am afraid it will produce sepsis and I die, because antibiotic ointment ran out and when I call a dermatologist and tell I need it urgently she gives me an appointment 4 months (!!!) in the future!

In a corrupt developing 3rd world dictatorship Cambodia it is possible to buy antibiotic ointments without prescription and also dermatologist wait there is only 7-10 days, not 4 months.

  3. Deaths linked to #antibioticresistant #superbugs rose 17% in #England in #2024
Nearly 400 new cases of #antibiotic-resistant #infections a week last year
“Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest health threats we face,” said the UKHSA’s chief, Susan Hopkins. “More people than ever are acquiring infections that cannot be effectively treated by antibiotics. This puts them at greater risk of serious illness and even death, with our poorest communities hit the hardest.”

  4. Powerful new #antibiotic that can kill #superbugs discovered in #soil #bacteria
Surprise discovery could pave the way for new treatments against #drugresistant #infections.
They discovered an intermediate compound — called premethylenomycin C lactone — whose #antimicrobial activity was 100 times stronger than that of the final product. Tiny doses killed strains of bacteria known to cause hard-to-treat infections.

  5. New #antibiotic that kills #drugresistant #bacteria discovered in technician’s #garden
It targets bacteria’s protein-making factory, the #ribosome, in a way that other antibiotic drugs don’t. Ribosome is an attractive antibiotic target because bacteria don’t easily develop resistance to #drugs targeting the structure. In studies, #lariocidin slowed the growth of a range of common bacterial #pathogens, including many multidrug-resistant strains.
