  6. I used to send my piemaking brag-photos to my sister, but she sometimes gets so forlorn about not getting to eat them! So I’ll post here.

Our #HomemadePieOfTheMonth for June (just squeaking in!) is Cherry Custard #Pie from Ken Haedrich’s book Pie Academy.Easy recipe — could have been easier still, but I chose to use fresh cherries!

  11. After pitting a bunch of cherries, I paused baking prep to go (re-) purchase an ingredient, and almost forgot to wash my forearms as well as my hands. Best not to go out in public wearing a subtle blood spatter effect. 😬

  16. May’s Homemade #Pie of the Month (somewhat last minute!) is Blueberry Banana Pudding Pie from the #cookbook Justice of the Pies by Maya-Camille Broussard. I haven’t made many pudding pies before and this one defied my expectations: a sweet but complex combination of flavors!

  21. The sheer exasperation of trying a new recipe that is fussy, uses 3 kitchen appliances, and leaves vast windrows of dirty dishes…and finding that it is quite delicious and I definitely will want to eat it again in future. 🤦🏻‍♀️

  26. Some may say I "failed to plan ahead for Pi Day” but I maintain I “decided to celebrate the Ides of March with a pie this year.” The Ides of March deserve pie, too! See the fork-tine crust? It’s stabbing-themed!

(It is an oatmeal-butterscotch pie, which is non-Caesar-related. It’s just what I’d planned for March!)

  31. CW: Food mention, unnecessary over-use of exclamation points

Just realized I’ve been telling my friends vaguely that I was “baking” this afternoon, preemptively pie-shaming myself out of telling them the truth. Yes, I know what happens in the U.S. next week! I’ll make more pies then if I want to! When this apple pie is gone, we’ll want another! This is a pie-positive household!

Some people have ovens, while others use bread makers or Insta Pots. Which do I prefer?

For basic bread, I love my bread maker. My hands are giving me some pain, and it handles the kneading. Oven for cakes, cookies, pies, or anything fancy.

Do I bake a lot or use baked goods for special occasions?

    Yes!!

If so, what are your top three?

This is harder (for reasons--I still haven't figured out lactose intolerance, really).
Top is definitely Bread. I can bake bread by hand, but I did bring a bread maker to Odyssey to save time . . .

Use to be that I'd say New York-style cheesecake--which I still make, but don't eat.

    Grandma's Butter Cookies!!
    Also--hubby's pie.
