I got used to #patchwork when digging through #linux #kernel #patches for #rockchip. Sadly there was no patchwork for #sunxi (#allwinner stuff to say). Was.

Я уже много лет интересуюсь темой ноутбуков на нестандартных процессорных архитектурах. Благодаря чипсетам Snapdragon и Apple, ARM в ноутбуках для повседневного использования стал реальностью: ещё 10-15 лет назад ARM-лэптоп был экзотикой для гиков, а сейчас такие устройства покупают для использования в офисах, в дороге и, в случае Mac, для довольно тяжелой работы. Однако меня больше интересуют устройства из нижнего сегмента рынка и я периодические мониторю предложения на китайских маркетплейсах. И недавно я нашёл там полноценный ARM-ноутбук всего за 6 000 рублей . Сегодня мы разберемся, что из себя представляет этот девайс на практике!

So what's under the heatsink? A SoC, the #allwinner A527, 64-bit octa-core arm cpu (but also supports RISC-V?), 64GB eMMC by Rayson and 2GB of DRAM also by Rayson.

Yesterday at @chaosdorf. I got a tiny step further with @oreboot on the #Allwinner #H616, discarding the switch to Aarch64 for now and trying to set up our logger.
Basic printing works, but passing the serial instance to our log crate crashes or something. I assume now that it's a toolchain/target issue. To be investigated; help wanted.

The #allwinner V3x is a chip with a 1GHz ARM core and 128MB of RAM built-in. It includes an LCD controller (it can drive vga if you add a few resistors too) and needs very few support chips (just some voltage regulators). It comes in an LQFP package, easy to use on a 2-layer board (but 0.4mm pitch, a oit small for hand soldering). Also has uart, ethernet, audio, spi, sd card support.
Seems perfect if you want to make a PDA, game console, or other type of tiny computer

@farooqkz , I'm using #Olimex Lime2, it's power consumption is about 5W. The #Allwinner SoC and PMIC has a lot of documentation from community. For Wi-Fi you will need an USB dongle (it can be a plus).

@geerlingguy offtopic semi serious question - what is the best open source portal cms? wp? drupal? joomla? ghost? mediawiki? typo3? I have tried quite a few of them - the thing is you have to install the right modules/plugins/extensions to really unlock the functionality so initial impressions can be deceiving like rsj (ai version). I basically want a template to plug in maybe 10 portals. i have a wiki, yacy, going but i need to complete the mission and get portal template boilerplated - wish me luck #distillate #riscV lamp cluster #allwinner

Did you know that #Debian is still compiled for the armel platform? That's basically ARMv5 (no FPU), which is exactly what the #Allwinner F1C100s/F1C200s have.
So yes, you can run the latest Debian (at least the userland) on these SoCs.Too bad that even 64 megabytes of RAM (F1C200s) is not enough for an apt install...

There's a #RockChip and #Amlogic in EVERYTHING; they use the same #Arm cores, as the #RaspberryPi but in different configurations. There are versions with 3.2 USB, and 2.5 Ethernet!
There are DOZENS of devices made by a dozen or more companies using #Allwinner, #Unisoc, #Dimensity, or #qualcomm chips, but there's only one company making #BCM devices.

DongShan Pi Pico-W: крошечный одноплатник с современным чипсетом за 600 рублей
Китайские производители не перестают удивлять: многие видят явные перспективы рынка одноплатных компьютеров и стараются представить целую линейку девайсов на самых разных чипсетах, а разработчики стараются использовать уже привычное и поддерживаемое долгие годы железо. К ним относятся решения на чипсетах AllWinner, RockChip, Tegra. Другие же стараются взять малоизвестный, но дешевый чип для иного круга применений, развести на нем компактную плату и продавать по цене пачки сухарей, подобные решения появляются регулярно. Один из таких одноплатников я недавно купил на AliExpress — некий DongShan Pi Pico W, на базе экзотического чипсета SigmaStar SSD210, всего за 600 рублей. И тут действительно есть на что посмотреть: два ядра Cortex-A7, контроллер TTL матриц, 2D GPU, Wi-Fi, 64Мб ОЗУ и Embedded Linux на борту. Более того, девайс поставляется в виде System on Module с переходной Evaluation-платой, что позволяет использовать это устройство в составе других гаджетов! Что это за красавец и на что он способен?
